A/N: Hi! First of all, the regular stuff when I begin new chapters in this book. This chapter is inspired by 17/24 from my book, Counting Down. Now onto the important stuff! I'm going to be out of town/away from my computer for a little bit. I'm gonna try and finish at least one more chapter for you guys before I leave but I might me MIA for a little. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

You hated your job. It was your typical crappy customer service job mostly offered to teens because they had no where else to apply. It really felt like an opportunity to let customers berate workers without getting into too much trouble.

But, while you hated your job, you loved your manager. At least, you loved your day shift manager, Chad. He was a chill college student who let workers listen to music or whatever as long as they still were able to help out managers. He also would let everyone go home early during exam season or after they got yelled at by a customer.

Your night manager was the opposite. She was an older lady who loved to yell at absolutely everyone. There was no music allowed on her watch, even for people working in the stock rooms in the back where customers weren't allowed. She was a bitter woman and there were running bets on how many times she'd been divorced due to her horrid personality.

Unfortunately for you, it was another long weekend, which meant night shift. Your day manager had already clocked out with an apologetic expression as Mrs.Karen started her rounds. You weren't even being funny, that was actually what she made everyone call her because just Karen was too informal.

Immediately, there was a scramble to either take out earbuds or hide them behind hair or hats. You immediately shoved on a nearby hat with the store's logo on it and Mrs.Karen didn't seem to notice your earbuds as she stalked off to yell at one of the cashiers. You grimaced and returned to stocking the shelves.

It wasn't the quietest of nights, but you were left alone for the most part. You were listening to some streamer playing the Sims 4. Obviously, you wished you were actually watching the video, but if you did that Karen would 100% catch you.

As your shift continued you helped a couple of people around the store and most of them were decent human beings. For example, the mother who looked like she was about to cry when you offered to watch her kid for a second so she could use the bathroom. Or the older couple who kept on asking you for snack recommendations for their grandson who was about your age.

Of course, the peace couldn't last forever. Right as the stream ended and your earbuds went silent some guy came up to you pissed off about not having a certain brand of frozen peas.

"Well I always get this exact brand! So go find it!" Of course the yelling attracted Karen who glared at you for upsetting the customer. Because it was somehow your fault that the exact brand of frozen peas wasn't in stock at that exact time.

"L/N. Go check in the back." Karen hissed before turning to the customer. "I am so sorry sir! You know how lazy this generation is. L/N probably forgot to stock them."

Despite knowing for sure you'd stocked everything you walked into the backroom, quickly pulling out your earbuds when you were out of eyesight. Karen was already mad and if she saw those she would kill you. Not to mention the stream had ended already.

"Joe? Karen wants to know if we have any frozen peas. Specifically 'Green Garden Frozen Peas'." Your coworker who was better than you, actually took a moment to look before shaking his head. "Nope. None here. Good luck facing the beast, Y/N."

You steeled yourself before walking out of the backroom. "I am so sorry sir but I just checked with stocking and we are unfortunately out of the Green Garden Frozen Peas. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"

You flinched as the man started yelling again as Karen tried desperately to pacify him. As he stormed off she ran after him, but not before shooting you a killer glare. You really hated her. But you quickly finished stocking the empty shelves before you came back and proceeded to hide behind Joe for the rest of your shift.

The two of you had finished counting and labeling the rest of the boxes early so you'd found another video by the same streamer you'd been listening to earlier. It was another Sims 4 play through and you let her soothing voice quell your anxiety until it was time to clock out. You, thankfully, never saw Karen again and hoped she'd have forgotten all about this next time you had to work a night shift.
