"I...it's a c-contraction.." Kris's whispered painfully. I watched as she took a deep breath but her face was still contorted in pain.

"Should we um get you to the er infirmary?" I stammered, as my mind began to spin. I wasn't ready! I couldn't do this!

"Y-yes please." She stammered herself, pushing herself up and off the chair. She took a step and winced visibly. I didn't like to see her like this. Carefully and gently, I wrapped my arm around her waist, steadying her. She tensed as another contraction overtook her. I rubbed her lower back soothingly as we stood there for a minute as we waited for it to stop. Finally, she nodded. Step by step, we slowly and painfully made out way to the infirmary. There, doctors surrounded us, whisking Kriss away from me. Panicking, I cried out.

"She's my wife! I have to go with her!" I was brutally ignored. I gave up and slumped into a hard plastic chair. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a maid making her way over to me. She curtsied politely,

"Your majesty. May I be of service?" It was America. I sighed and shook my head, rubbing my temples.

"No thank you. I'm alright." America nodded, she took my hand and squeezed it comfortingly before leaving. I could hear Kriss groaning and crying in pain. My gut twisted as I listened. Finally, I couldn't take it any longer. I stormed into the room and bellowed,

"Everybody OUT. I do NOT want to see you anymore until it's time to deliver. Is that clear?" They all gaped at me for a second before rushing out, tripping over each other. I ran a hand through my hair, exhausted, before walking over to Kriss. She was in the middle of another contraction. She looked up at me,

"It hurts..." She whimpered. I took her hand in mine and squeezed it.

"Shh, it'll be alright in the end. I'm here. " I murmured. She gripped my hand in a death grip and squeezed her eyes shut. I felt completely useless.

"Can I do anything to help?" I whispered.

"C-contraction." She murmured. We sat together for what seemed like forever until the doctors came in to check on her.

"She's ten centimetres dilated. She can push now." I nodded fearfully and lied her down on the bed gently. Her chocolate brown eyes were filled with joy, fear and pain. The doctors prepared her and gave her the okay. She gripped my hand and pushed, sweat started to roll down her face.

Half an hour later, our baby boy was born. Large, fat drops rolled down Kriss' flushed cheeks as she held the crying little baby.

"What should we name him?" She asked me.

"What about Kriston?" I murmured thoughtfully.

"I love it." She said softly. I noticed the slump in her shoulders and the bags under her eyes and carefully pried Kriston out of her arms.

"You need to rest, my love." I amended gently. She tried to stifle a yawn, failing miserably.

"A-alright." She responded drowsily. I shifted her pillow and cot slightly and she laid her head down.

"Stay with me?" She mumbled sleepily.

"Of course." I brought over a chair with a cushion and sat next to her, cradling Kriston in my arms. I watched Kriss sleep for a while before starting to drift off myself. My head nodded and fell to my chest.

I remembered a flash of blonde hair and blue eyes and the feeling of my son being lifted out of my arms, along with some murmurs. Then my eyes closed completely and I fell asleep.

"Maxon?" Out of nowhere, I heard my voice being called.

"Five more minutes." I grumbled.

"It's almost ten. I'm supposed to go back to my room." I recognized Kriss' cheerful voice. Then, a thought hit me. I'd forgotten about America. I jumped straight up, startling her.

"Sorry, sorry." I mumbled. Kriss merely laughed and started to get up, wincing slightly. I walked over to the crib and picked up Kriston, holding him in only one of my arms as I held out my other arm to Kriss. She took it gratefully and half leaned on me.

"Sore?" I asked gently.

"Just a bit. But it's all worth it." She cooed at Kriston.

"My king and my prince."

I felt a warm blush appear on my cheeks. We walked down the halls and stopped outside our room.

"Kriss, honey, take Kriston. I have a couple more things to check on. I want to be here but I..." I grimaced, how was I supposed to tell her I had a meeting with a girl I loved? A girl that wasn't her.

"It's completely fine." She said assuringly. She took Kriston gently and walked inside, leaving me frozen by the door. Then, I remembered again and bolted to the library. I burst inside and looked around. I caught a whisp of blonde hair and followed it. My face broke into a wide smile as I saw her.

"Hello." I said smoothly, seeing as she hadn't seen me yet. She started, whipping her head around fearfully. I saw her relax as she noticed it was me.

"Hello." She replied, a small smile growing on her face. I ran up to her and pulled her close, I couldn't get enough of the feel of her in my arms. She wrapped her own arms around me, small tears sliding down her rosy cheeks.

"I'm sorry I'm late." I murmured, using my thumb to gently brush away her tears.

"It's not your fault. Congratulations, by the way." She said softly.

"Thank you. But there's one thing I regret." I admitted. She looked at me in shock.

"Really?"

"Yes. Because I regret that I chose who the person that would be lying on the bed. And that I made the wrong choice."
