Btw, feel free to comment on any errors I made so I can correct them. Ty.
Was she safe? Had they gotten her into a safe room in time? I knew there was a passage to a safe room from the infirmary but I was still worried beyond words. I could feel Kriss shaking next to me as I put an arm around her. I could see the two guards, tense as they tried to listen on what was going outside. The rebels had lowered their voices to hushed, rapid murmurs. I could only figure out a couple words. King... Queen... Guards?... Prince... I glanced towards the hidden door that could lead the rebels to us. Sure, it was nicely and cleverly hidden. But the minute they pulled the shelf away, it wouldn't be all that hard for them to find the door. This was just the place we could hide. There were no more escape routes. The guards had positioned themselves against the door, a boulder to block a path. I knew the door had several locks on it too along with complicated codes that had to be pushed in after the door was set up but that didn't help Kriss' shaking nor did it calm my thoughts. Out of the blue, Kriston gave a soft cry. Kriss' head shot up and she turned away quickly, as if she were a human shield that could block out the sound. I dropped in front of her, trying to block the sound from reaching the rebels outside. Quickly, in the most motherly way possible, Kriss calmed down Kriston. She rocked him gently, cradling his tiny head until he fell into a deep sleep. Guess the little guy was tired. Both guards looked up as we began to hear the rebels' voices again.

"Did you hear that?" The voice I recognized as Stefan's, asked.

"Hear what?" The voice I recognized as Strahinya, asked.

"That cry. It has to be the prince!" Justin added in.

"Where could they be hiding?" Stefan mused. Immediately, Officer Boltis was on his walkie talkie, trying to get the other guards downstairs to the safe room. Probably to... Deal with the three inside. I pursed my lips, keeping quiet. I could hear them shuffling around as they -I assumed- tried to find our hiding place. Then I heard a loud bang, jumping slightly.

"They're here." Officer Montay murmured, visibly relaxing. I breathed a sigh of relief as I realized what he meant. The other guards were here. We'd be safe. We were safe. I smiled assuredly at Kriss, reaching over to squeeze her hand.

"Who is it?" Stefan called out stupidly.

"It's Jeffrey!" A voice called back. My eyes widened as I shot a look at Officer Montay.

"What's going on?" I hissed, my voice deathly low. The officer shook his head.

"It's fake." He whispered as I heard a voice cut in. Strahinya.

"Get us out! It's Strahinya, by the way." He added.

"And Stefan." I could practically hear his eyes rolling.

"And Justin." Justin, presumably, sighed.

"Duck." A voice ordered from outside. I heard a blast, an explosion that caused the floor to tremble and the walls to creak in protest. I smelled a little smoke and Kriss covered Kriston's nose with her sleeve quickly. Then I heard a shot, a second shot and a third, followed by a series of consecutive thumps. Kriston began to wail, but it didn't matter anymore. Officer Boltis quickly typed in a couple things onto a keypad, pressed a couple buttons and quickly pulled out a key as he let us out,  bowing along the way.

"Thank you very much." I said, clasping his hand. I stepped out to see a younger officer, grey eyed and broad shouldered.

"And thank you." Kriss piped up, cradling a now quieted Kriston.

"It's our duty, your majesties. Now, we have sent everyone back to their rooms, and assuming you would like to as well, we'll leave you to it. Officer Boltis can bring you up." I noticed a couple medals and realized that the younger officer had to be in charge of Boltis and Montay.

"We'll be alright, thank you." I dismissed.

"If that's what you would like." The grey eyed officer said with a nod. They left all together as I took Kriss' hand and walked back up to our room. Surprisingly, it hadn't been too messed with. A few pillows were thrown around and drawers had been spilled but that was mostly it.

And then I remembered for the second time. America.

Sorry it's been such a long wait and a short chapter too... I've just been busy with homework and projects. But Tyasm for reading anyways!
