HELLOOOO READERS: Thanks for the support! Here's Chapter 11, Happy Reading!
Note: This chapter is dedicated to Ava aka classicselection on Insta (So if you're reading this, and you better be, I send Krista love and AspenxKrista/Krispen ships, yachts, boats, cruises etc.) Who knew you would read my book? Anyways, SURPRISE!

"What?" I whispered, my heart pounding at an accelerated pace. Kriss stayed quiet, her breathing oddly even. It was then that I realized that she was still asleep. She was a sleep talker. I released a breath and sighed, slowly relaxing.

"What are you dreaming about, you beautiful girl?" I whispered, fingering a couple of her long brown strands of hair.

Soon enough, Kriss woke up, looking a little dazed. Then, as if she remembered everything, which she probably did, she slumped. In a second, my arms were around her.

"I know, I know." I murmured. I'd been married to her much more than long enough to know she hated the safe rooms with a passion, almost as much as the rebels. To be completely honest, I've learned a lot over the past years. A lot.

"Today is Kriston's one hundredth day." Kriss whispered.

"It was supposed to be happy." She continued, voice breaking. I held her close, pulling her to my chest, in which she buried her face.

"I know. We'll make up for it. We'll be out soon." I hope. I added mentally.

I heard a soft stirring on the other side of the room and glanced up. The guard who had been asleep had awoken and was switching places with the other officer. They both sent small nods of thanks across the room and I nodded in return. It was the least I could do.

Several hours later, we were still stuck inside the safe room. I had already started pacing about thirty minutes ago. This was longer than an average attack and I was beginning to get worried.

"Maxon, you're going to wear a hole in the carpet." Kriss sighed exasperatedly.

"You're worrying for nothing."

"Kriss, one, there is no carpet, and two, we're three hours over the average attack time." I shot her a look of frustration, almost begging her to see how hard this was, how hard it was to know that everyone was terrified and hiding while guards ran around the palace with no sleep, trying to uncover all the rebels.

"It's an expression." She shot me a look in return.

"Now, come over here." She waved me over and patted the spot next to her on the couch. It was a bit strange, actually, normally, she wasn't this calm. Maybe she was just acting for my sake. Nevertheless, I walked over to her and sat down. She reached up, her fingers settling on my tense shoulders as she began to knead soothingly. I didn't know how worked up and uptight I had been until she began.

"You need to relax. Everything will be just fi-." Kriss was cut off by a loud bang on the door. She gasped softly. Kriston, who had been taking his midday nap awoke, shifting around. The guard who was awake was already at the door, peering through a secret loophole. His friend was now awake, hand on his belt, which held a pistol.

"Rebels." The first guard whispered. The one who was asleep launched towards us, grabbing Kriss' arm roughly before grabbing mine. Quickly, I picked up Kriston before we were ushered into a secret room behind a brick wall. The guard entered after us, probably to protect us if we were found.

"Your majesties, you must stay quiet." He whispered, as if it wasn't already obvious. My eyes widened in realization.

"They'll know we were there. The robe. The blankets. The water bottles." I whispered.

"Allen is going to deal with that. Then he'll join us here." I knew the guards were trained to fear near to nothing but I could see the fear in his eyes for his friend. I assumed that Allen was the other guard, anyways. A few moments later, I heard the small door swing open. I froze, grabbing Kriss' hand. She had managed to soothe Kriston back to sleep, which helped but couldn't do anything if we were found. I noticed a flash of red and realized that it was the other officer. The secret door closed and Allen joined us.

"They're at the door, trying to break in. I've put away everything so it looks like no one has been there. I also put on the auto lock system so once they enter, they'll be locked inside, which will give us time to call guards down here." He explained.

"You cannot move from this place until all the rebels are gone, do you understand, your majesty?" The other guard asked. Now, I could see their name tags. Allen was Officer Boltis and the other officer was Officer Montay. I nodded. All of a sudden, I heard a loud whoop of glee. They made it in.

"Close the door, quick, quick." I heard the door close and a loud click.

"What was that?" Someone asked.

"Auto Lock." The 'whooper' realized before cursing quite colourfully.

"Wow. That's just great, Justin." The second rebel sneered.

"Yeah, thanks a lot. Guards will be rushing down here in seconds to kill us all." A third voice muttered. They didn't even seem scared, though. Perhaps a little angry... a lot angry but not scared.
I glanced at the two officers and they shrugged to tell me they didn't know what was happening.

"If someone was in here to set up Auto Lock, they wouldn't have been able to leave through these doors. And they're probably still in here." Justin (I assumed) mused.

"Wait. Isn't this the royal safe room?" Voice #2 asked curiously.

"It is! Stefan, you're a genius." Voice #3 said.

"I know, Strahinya." Stefan replied in a snotty voice.

All of a sudden, a huge thought hit me like a truck on a highway. America.

So, a lot of you wanted America back so she will probably be in the next chapter. Okay? Okay.

Val.
