Chapter 12: Tournament

The academy life was mostly peaceful. Everyone at Arcana was adjusting well with their classes. And after getting their first semester's exam out of their way the students had nothing much going on their life.

"Why do you think we were called to assemble so suddenly?" Ryan asked as they were making their way towards the assembly hall.

As the students were getting curious about this gathering, all sorts of rumors started circulating. Rumours from announcing of vacations for the students to the rumours of the demon king attacking the kingdom.

"No idea what they will announce" Dear Mr. Sparrow said.

The two boys finally reached the grand assembly hall. The hall was dark and had the ancient vibe you get from an elder who speaks of history in a nostalgic way.

Everyone assembled in the hall. Ryan spotted their professors like Sandalwood, Godfrey, the living doll Cassandra as most students call her now and some other teaching staff.

Among the students Eva and L were spotted by Sparrow. The group wanted to gather and gossip but strangely today everyone were gathered in a predetermined formation.

Upon closer observation each gathering consisted of students from a single hostel.

There were ten such gatherings consisting of seniors and juniors. Ryan and Sparrow stood close to each other in the front where they had a clear view of the stage.

Suddenly on the stage mist rose up and the Dean Voldemort appeared.

"My Dear students, I have gathered you all here to first congratulate upon passing your semester exams with flying colours." The Dean said with his magically amplified voice which was heard by close to a thousand students.

"How did you do on your exams?" Sparrow asked

"Aced all subjects." Ryan replied "You?"

"Passed" Sparrow mumbled "Barely..."

The Dean continued "And the second reason for gathering all of you here is to let you know that Arcana is going to organize the inter hostel tournament a month from now. In this tournament all of you can compete and make a name for yourself. There are solo events, and group events. You can participate into quizzes, sports, spell casting, spell formation and sparring events."

The Dean sounded strangely excited.

"Now further instructions will be sent to your Genesis. Before you leave now, I would like to tell you people how it is important to do well as a wizard to help mankind. It will barely take two minutes...."

(Genesis is the magical smartphone forgetful readers.)

(This Dean has lost it. Make him stop author. He is entering uncharted territories of his mind. Make him stop.)

Finally the Dean stopped after an hour and half long speech after saying "I will not take too much of your time."

The Gathering was dispersed and everyone left to their respective hostels.

Ryan and Sparrow also made their way to Hostel Salamander with the rest of their hostel mates.

After dinner an unofficial gathering of the students of Salamander Hostel took place.

This 'meeting' was called by the seniors and it made the juniors a little wary as they had their guard up against the seniors due to their experiences of their previous gatherings. More so against the infamous Prank Lord Tom Misleader who was nowhere to be seen today. Probably taking this meeting for granted.
