The restaurant's soft ambiance, though it didn't ease the tension between Keia and Seline. The low lights reflected off the polished table between them, as Seline's finger taps against the surface in irritation.
The gentle music floating through the air only heightened the weight of their silence, making every glance and gesture feel more weary as if something irreversible is emerging.
Keia, sitting rigidly across from Seline, appeared weak. Her anxious fidgeting betrayed her emotions as she picked at the napkin on her lap. Her wide eyes filled with a desperate need to make things right, but words felt heavy on her tongue.
Seline, on the other hand, sat with her back straight with a cold expression, her deep sighs revealed a growing frustration.
Her black hair was tucked behind her ears with her sharp features illuminated by the flickering candle between them. She downed a wine from the stressful conversation she was having.
"N'Keia, let's break up." Her voice cut through like a knife.
Keia flinched as if she'd been poured cold water. She met Seline's gaze, her lips trembling into a sad smile and her eyes are watery.
"No... I won't break up with you, P'Seline." her voice breaks, with a soft plea like an unfinished sentence.
Seline exhaled and tightened her grip on the wine glass. "You know it's not working anymore." her eyes stared at their half-eaten plates of food between them, untouched since the conversation had begun.
She brought the wine glass to her lips but set it down again, barely sipping. Her patience is wearing thin, and her frustration is visible.
Keia leaned forward, her voice dropping to whisper, "It's not working because you're a workaholic. You don't give us time, P'Seline. When was the last time we were.. together?" her cheeks flushed as she lowered her voice even more. "When was the last time we had sex?"
Seline pulls back at the word, a mixture of exhaustion and annoyance etched on her face. "Stop." Her voice was firm, but her eyes betrayed the headache she could feel building in her temples. She sighed and stared at Keia.
"Also, fix your life. You don't have a job, N'Keia. All you do is play video games and stream live on Twitch or TikTok. It's been eight months, and nothing's changed." Each word was like a blow, and Keia sat there, silently, her eyes moistening. She opened her mouth to protest, but nothing came out. She swallowed hard, her voice barely audible. "Please... don't break up with me."
Seline's expression softened for a split second before hardening again. "I'm sorry, N'Keia." she said, this time more quietly. She stood abruptly, she reached into her purse, pulled out her wallet, and threw down enough cash to cover their meal, Keia stared at the bills, with her teary eyes.
Seline left without another word, as the restaurant's door swung shut behind her. Keia sat there, motionless, eyes fixed on the door her body felt numb, and her heart hollowed out.
Seline's words echoed inside her head, tears welled up in her eyes, but she blinked them back, staring at the glass of red wine Seline had left behind.
"I love you so much, Seline." she whispered to no one. A tear finally escaped, rolling down her cheek.
An idea started to Keia in her mind, an idea both dangerous and irrational. Her thoughts were messed up by desperation.
She knew it was wrong, knew it might land her in trouble. But Keia didn't care, she'd do anything, anything at all to get Seline back.
"We'll be back together, Seline." she whispered again, her eyes narrowing with strange determination.
Keia stood up slowly, leaving the restaurant, and was already plotting her next move, the details of her plan starting to shape in her mind.
Seline thought this was the end, but for Keia, it was only the beginning.
