"Bottom lock, second-to-top lock, third-to-top lock, top lock." The crazy hobo spat at Nancy, Jonathan and Justin as he flipped through a keyring that had at least fifty keys on it.
"Why are we listening to a homeless man again?" Justin tilted her head, her brows drawing together in genuine confusion.
The scraggly man gave her a glare. Jonathan shook his head slightly. Justin gave a shrug before wandering off toward the Hot Dog on a Stick to get herself a corn dog and a lemonade. She slid onto the counter, getting a corn dog from the hot dog steamer, biting into it without a thought. Well. She had thoughts. But none about the food. More about how she wished she'd stayed in bed rather than hanging out with Nancy Wheeler and a bunch of ten year olds. She grabbed a large cup and started pouring the frozen lemonade slushy into it from the machine, watching the yellow ice fill up the cup all the way to the brim. Justin grabbed a straw, forgoing a lid, and stuck it in the drink. Something brushed her shoulder and she jumped, almost spilling the sticky yellow drink. "Jesus fucking-" Her eyes were wide, pupils contracted to the size of a needle as she looked up at Jonathan.
"Woah- Hey- You're okay-" He breathed out, resting his hand on her shoulder with a small, comforting smile.
"Right. . .Right." She muttered, looking around and noticing there wasn't any immediate danger. Oh boy would she have to go to therapy after this week. "You can't sneak up on a girl like that, J. She might think you're a scary flesh monster coming to steal her skin." Justin quipped, biting into the warm corn dog.
"That's stealing."
"Is it really? I didn't realize." Justin snarked, not really caring if she were stealing or not. She was hungry and it was there. Besides, nobody was working. The mall had closed at least half an hour ago and everyone was gone. It's not like anyone would know. "Don't tell that Chief police dude." Justin looked over Jonathan's shoulder. "He might lock me up." She grinned back up at the taller brunet, seeing the smile he was trying to hide.
"Come on. We're heading out." Jonathan nodded toward the front of the mall.
Justin gave a curt nod, sliding off the counter and tossing the other half of her corn dog into a trash can. "Let's." She sighed, running her pointer finger along the nail of her thumb.
Once they got outside, Justin slid into the middle of the backseat of Nancy's car, Rylie on her left and Lucas Sinclair on her right.
Nancy twisted the key to her car in the ignition, the car responding with a sick noise.
"What's wrong?" Jonathan questioned.
"I don't. . ." Nancy trailed off.
"What the fuck's wrong with your car? We kinda gotta go." Justin rolled her eyes, leaning forward her elbows on the backs of Nancy and Jonathan's seats, sipping loudly from her straw.
"I don't know!" She-devil repeated, twisting the key all the way and holding it there. "You can't be serious, come on!"
"Didn't your mom just buy this car?" Lucas muttered.
"Yes! I'm sure it's fine."
"Did you leave the lights on?" Mini Jonathan asked, making sure Nancy hadn't killed the car's battery.
"No!"
"I'll go look." Rylie huffed, sliding out the back seat and walking around. The cherry bomb hit her palm on the hood of the car, signaling for Nancy to pop it. Jonathan got out of the car at the same time Nancy clicked the button, jogging around to where Rylie was standing. Rylie pushed it all the way up, scoffing. "The fuck?" Justin perked up slightly, sliding out the car and walking over to the two.
