𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 edge of her bed, (Y/n) buried her face in her hands. Her thoughts raced, grappling with the fear that she might never fully control her ability. The realization gnawed at her, casting shadows of doubt over her confidence as a future hero.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts, drawing (Y/n)'s gaze. "Come in," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
The door creaked open, revealing (Y/n)'s cousin—Denki Kaminari standing in the doorway, his expression a mix of concern and hesitancy. "(Y/n), can we talk?" he asked softly, his usual upbeat demeanor subdued.
(Y/n) nodded wordlessly, her heart heavy with apprehension as Denki entered and closed the door behind him. He took a seat beside her, his presence a familiar comfort amidst her turmoil.
"I saw what happened out there," Denki began quietly, his gaze earnest. "Controlling a new ability or quirk is tough, especially one like yours. Don't blame yourself."
"I know," (Y/n) admitted, her voice trembling slightly. "But what if I never get it right? What if I end up hurting someone again? I'm pretty sure Eijirou hates me now."
Denki sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You won't, (Y/n). You're strong, and you're careful. It's just... sometimes these things happen when we're trying to control something new. And I'm sure Eijirou doesn't hate you, he was just scared for—"
(Y/n) swallowed the lump in her throat, meeting Denki's gaze. "Yes, scared. He was scared of me. You should've seen the look in his eyes."
"(Y/n)," Denki started gently, "Eijirou and Mina both know that you didn't mean for this to happen. They understand."
"They have every right to be scared, though. I'm scared of myself too," (Y/n) admitted softly, her voice barely above a whisper, laden with uncertainty and self-doubt.
Denki placed a comforting hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder, offering silent support as they stood together in the quiet of the room. The evening sun cast a warm glow through the window, painting the walls in shades of orange and gold.
"You're learning to control something awesome," Denki said reassuringly. "I mean blood manipulation? How come you never told me about it? It's not easy, I know, but you're not alone in this."
(Y/n) nodded, grateful for Denki's understanding. Despite the turmoil within her, his words provided a sliver of reassurance, a reminder that she had allies who believed in her.
"I just wish I didn't hurt anyone," (Y/n) murmured, her gaze falling to the floor.
"We'll figure it out," Denki replied, his voice steady and unwavering. "Tomorrow's a new day. You'll get through this. I'm here if you need anything."
"Wow Denki, maybe you should consider becoming a life coach." (Y/n) joked, nudging him playfully.
Denki chuckled softly, his smile easing some of the tension in the room. "Hey, maybe I should! 'Positive affirmations with Denki Kaminari—shocking you into a better mindset!'"
(Y/n) couldn't help but laugh, the humor a welcome respite from the seriousness of their earlier conversation. "You'd have a line out the door for that."
"Well, if hero work doesn't pan out, I've found my backup plan," Denki teased, his playful demeanor lifting (Y/n)'s spirits.
(Y/n) showed a small smile, but beneath it, she harbored a deep fear of how her friends would now regard her. She couldn't shake the guilt of putting Mina's life at risk.
"Let's go get some food; it's really obvious that using your quirk like that took a toll on your energy," Denki said, rising from (Y/n)'s bed and extending his hand for her to take.
(Y/n) took Denki's hand, helping her stand up. As they descended the stairs, the quiet ambiance of the dormitory gave way to the faint hum of activity from the common areas below. Soft chatter and occasional laughter echoed through the halls as their other roommates went about their evening routines. Denki led the way, his steps light and purposeful, while (Y/n) followed beside him, her thoughts still lingering on the events of the day.
They reached the ground floor and made their way towards the kitchen, passing by students studying in the common areas or relaxing after a day of training as (Y/n) avoided making eye contact with anyone.
Denki scanned the counters for available ingredients, his eyes lighting up when he spotted a freshly baked tray of cookies cooling by the window. "Score!" he exclaimed quietly, glancing around to make sure no one was watching before swiping a couple and placing them on his plate.
(Y/n) giggled softly, shaking her head at his antics.
Denki grinned unabashedly, balancing his plate expertly as he moved around to look for food. "Hey, they're irresistible!" he stated, picking up a sandwich and adding it to his plate.
(Y/n) followed him, selecting a salad and a bowl of soup, as well as some cookies. Denki had a point, they are irresistible.
They settled into a comfortable silence as they ate, the soft clinking of utensils against plates mingling with the occasional murmur of conversation from others.
"Hey! You guys weren't going to invite us?" Hanta Sero chimed in, joined by Eijirou Kirishima, Mina Ashido, and Kyoka Jirou as they approached.
"Nah, you guys suck," Denki joked, motioning for them to sit. (Y/n) tensed up upon seeing Kirishima and Mina that didn't escape the group's notice.
(Y/n), you okay?" Kyoka asked her best friend as she settled down beside her.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" (Y/n) replied, attempting to brush off the topic.
"You know—"
"I'm okay, Kyoka, really." A small smile graced (Y/n)'s features as she continued to eat. Just then, Mina joined them, sitting down next to Kyoka.
"(Y/n)," Mina began, her voice gentle yet concerned, "I'm going to keep saying it until you're convinced. It's not your fault! It happens to all of us when we discover new abilities!"
(Y/n) hesitated, glancing between Kyoka and Mina. "But—" "No buts! This type of shit happens, it's normal. Don't let the guilt eat you, you didn't do anything wrong."
"Back in first year, I couldn't control how much vibration I channeled," Kyoka shared, offering a supportive squeeze on (Y/n)'s shoulder. "But I never let that stop me."
Mina nodded in agreement; her expression warm with concern. "Exactly. And I always struggled with the amount of acid I produce. So, don't let what happened today stop you, and we'll always be here to help."
"So, you're not mad? And what about Eijirou?" (Y/n) asked her pink friend.
"Hell no! That was actually really powerful. I'm even proud of you," Mina laughed. "And Eijirou was just worried about me, you know him."
(Y/n) nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you," she said softly. "I really appreciate it."
"Now that we've got all that settled," Sero began, "we should plan a hangout! It's been ages."
"Oh my god, yes!" Mina exclaimed. "We should have a karaoke or dance night!"
"Night? You know Bakubro has a bedtime," Kirishima snickered.
At the mention of Bakugou's name, (Y/n) almost choked on her food, stopping mid-bite. Her brain lagged for a second, momentarily forgetting that Bakugou was still part of the friend group. Thankfully, no one noticed her reaction.
"Is that okay with you, (Y/n)?" Kirishima added.
"Why are you asking me?" (Y/n) responded, her (h/c) hair falling slightly over her eyes.
"We know things haven't been the best between you guys..."
"Invite him, I don't care, to be honest."
But despite her words, she was far from honest.
