The two stood inside Katsuki's dorm room as silence enveloped the space, neither of them uttering a word.
"So," (Y/n) began, breaking the silence. "Why are you ignoring me, Katsuki?"
Katsuki froze for a second at her question; however, he stayed silent, afraid that if he opened his mouth, all the words would come tumbling out, and he wouldn't be able to stop them.
"This is the second time you've ignored me! I thought we were doing well being friends again. I gave you a second chance, and you decided to play with my feelings!" (Y/n) exclaimed. "I don't even know what I did wrong both times for you to ignore me. You can't just keep doing that—ghosting me!" (Y/n) refused to cry, not wanting to be seen as weak anymore.
"You don't know how much I missed our friendship. I just missed hanging out with you. You don't even care, you never did. You only care about yourself! You're so selfish—"
"No," his voice was barely audible.
"What?"
"No," he repeated slightly louder this time for her to hear.
"What do you mean—"
"I mean no, that's where you're wrong," Katsuki spoke, his voice rising with every sentence. "I cared so much I was willing to sacrifice our friendship in order to protect you. I cared so much that I distanced myself from you so you wouldn't get hurt."
"If that makes me selfish, so fucking be it, I don't give a damn!" Katsuki exclaimed. "You don't know how much it hurt—hurt me to distance myself from you."
"Katsuki—"
"No, you came here for an explanation, and I'm gonna fucking give you one!" The ash-blond-haired male interrupted her. "Back during our first year—during the war, I watched you get hurt because of me. You almost died!"
"You're one to talk, you fucking died!" (Y/n) exclaimed.
"But I'm still standing here in front of you, right?!" Katsuki shouted. "Even before that hell of a war, during the camp, you almost died trying to save me from getting kidnapped!"
"That's why I fucking distanced myself from you. I didn't want you to get hurt—or worse, killed because of me!"
"Then why did you come back...?" (Y/n) whispered, tears forming in her eyes.
"What?" Katsuki's voice lowered as he looked at her, puzzled.
"Why did you come back and become my friend again?" (Y/n) questioned.
"I heard those extras talking, that I hurt you more by distancing myself from you—Jirou's words, not mine," Katsuki explained. "And I thought that maybe I overreacted or some shit. But when I got closer to you again, you fucking get kidnapped!"
"Katsuki, the whole Death Eater situation had absolutely nothing to do with you. He kidnapped me because I was the only one who ever encountered him, and that happened before you began to talk to me again," (Y/n) explained.
"It had nothing to do with me?" Katsuki mumbled, earning him a nod from (Y/n) as silence enveloped the two once again.
Katsuki knew he had hurt her many times, even though he had no ill intentions. He just wanted to protect her, even if it meant that their friendship would become no longer.
"I—" Katsuki began, then stopped, closing his mouth quickly.
(Y/n) gazed up, meeting his eyes, her favorite color—vermillion. Back when they were friends, she would always stare at them whenever she had the chance. His eyes held such a pretty color.
Her heartbeat quickened, and she averted her gaze elsewhere.
"(Y/n)."
Who knew that her name coming out of his mouth would make her chest tingle?
(Y/n) looked at him again, noticing that he was closer to her now.
"I'm sorry," he apologized.
If this were to happen during their first year, (Y/n) would be really shocked; however, Katsuki's personality did improve a lot since then.
"I'm sorry for hurting you, I'm sorry for distancing myself," Katsuki tucked (Y/n)'s (h/c) hair behind her ear, "and I'm damn sorry for not realizing this sooner."
"It's okay, now that I know why. But you should've told me how you felt; we could've fixed all this sooner," (Y/n) replied.
"I know," Katsuki stated as he leaned in.
Katsuki leaned in, his eyes locked onto (Y/n)'s. The tension between them was palpable, a mixture of unresolved emotions and the weight of their shared history.
(Y/n) could feel her heart pounding in her chest, each beat echoing louder in the silence that enveloped them. She didn't move, waiting to see what he would do next, her breath hitching in anticipation.
Katsuki's expression softened, his usual harsh demeanor melting away. He paused just inches from her face, giving her a moment to pull back if she wanted to. But (Y/n) stayed still, her eyes fluttering shut as she felt the warmth of his breath on her skin.
Slowly, gently, Katsuki closed the gap, pressing his lips to hers in a tender kiss. It was a far cry from the brash, explosive personality he usually displayed, and it conveyed everything he had been unable to say with words.
(Y/n) responded, the kiss deepening as all the pent-up emotions they had both been holding onto finally found an outlet. It was a kiss of apology, of longing, and of a promise to do better.
When they finally pulled apart, both were slightly breathless. Katsuki rested his forehead against hers, his eyes searching hers for any sign of doubt or regret.
"I'm sorry," he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. "For everything."
(Y/n) smiled softly, her fingers brushing against his cheek. "It's okay," she replied. "Just promise me we won't do this again."
Katsuki nodded, his eyes full of sincerity. "I promise. I won't push you away again."
With that, they both felt a sense of peace, knowing that they were finally on the path to healing and understanding. They would face everything together, side by side, no longer just friends but something much more profound and meaningful.
A loud crash startled them both, causing them to quickly distance themselves. Katsuki immediately headed to his dorm room door and flung it open.
"YOU FUCKING EXTRAS!" he shouted, glaring at his friends who were spying on them from the hallway.
(Y/n) followed behind, laughing at the scene, which seemed to ease Katsuki's anger a bit.
"You guys made up?!" Mina exclaimed happily.
"I think you mean made out," Denki smirked, earning curses from Bakugou and a flustered (Y/n).
"Oh my god, WHAT?!" Mina and Kyoka shouted in unison, rushing to pull (Y/n) away as they ran towards her room, which was conveniently on the same floor as Bakugou's.
Before they reached her room, (Y/n) turned and waved at Katsuki, who was now showing a rare, small smile.
"Get inside, we're gonna need all the details," Sero stated as he pushed Bakugou back into his room, the other boys following behind.
"And I mean all of them."
