Somehow that night I found myself not being able to sleep. Bonnie had been given hope and would stay alive longer. Jeremy was alright and even Kai was fine. I was back at the Salvatore house, on a bed and not a rusty couch.
But Kai wasn't there. He was back at the hideout all alone. And at this moment, I'd rather be on that stupid pillow-less couch with a thin blanket that didn't even warm up my toes just because I knew Kai would be there in the other room.
"Uhh!!" I yelled muffled screams of frustration into the pillow.
I'd realized my feelings for Kai some time ago but it just kept getting worse. I sat up.
"I need a drink."
I hopped off the bed and headed towards the door only for it to be opened before I had the chance to turn the knob.
"Kai... What are you doing here?"
"Hey," he raised his eyebrows for an instant.
He looked both sides before walking in and closing the door behind him.
"Hey?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I just came, to you know... Admire the satin sheets and the um this doorknob... That's a pretty doorknob."
"Or... To admire my pretty face?"
I rolled my eyes. Obviously he wasn't here to look at some bed sheets or the entrance to a door.
"That was a joke..." I smiled awkwardly noticing that he was too quiet.
His careless face suddenly became serious and the distance between us gradually closed. His left hand grabbed my waist while his other, my face. His deep blue eyes gazing into mine. My eyes roamed from his eyes down to his rosy lips. I parted my lips, seeing as his were centimeters from mine.
Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in the pit of my stomach followed by a wet, warm liquid. Kai had stabbed me.
He dug it out and dropped it. With bloody hands he shrugged, "I get my emotions mixed up." His vicious smile had twisted into a bitter glare.
I held back my pain with a groan. Blood dripped from my lip but I caressed his face with a small smile before leaning in to kiss him.
"I love you." I collapsed on the hardwood floor with a thud.
Kai looked at his hands and then himself from the mirror across from him. There was blood smeared on his lips. It was my mark. He was filling with overwhelming emotions. He wanted to scream yet laugh at the same time. He didn't do either.
"I love you, too."
A single tear stained his puzzled face before Elena came barging in.
"Kai! What the hell did you do?" She shoved Kai before heading towards me.
"I told you we should've killed him after saving Bonnie." Damon spat venom at Kai.
He grabbed Kai by the collar, "are you...crying?"
He throw Kai back on the floor. Elena bit her wrist feeding my body her fluids. She sighed in relief once she saw the wound in my stomach was healing.
"I... She... We almost kissed... And I panicked." He grabbed his head in frustration.
"Don't tell me you're scared of falling in love?" Damon raised an eyebrow.
He sighed, crossing his arms. Kai couldn't look either of them in the eyes. It was true. Kai had learned to maintain distance from others. And could someone blame him? He was betrayed by his own people. His own family. How would he be able to entrust his heart to an outsider?.
"That says a lot... Considering you're technically how old?"
"In other words, the real Kai kicked in." Elena swallowed hard.

"She'll be fine. She just needs to rest." Elena says.
Damon had placed me on the sofa in the living area. There was a bloody mess that had to be cleaned up in my room so it was decided this was the best place, for now.
"Good. Let's go."
Elena pulled Damon aside, not wanting Kai to hear.
"Damon... I don't trust him."
"That makes us both. But Stefan and Caroline are out there, with their humanity shut off and we need to find them before the trail of corpses gets any bigger and if that little psycho does something I wouldn't, the first thing I'll do its snap his neck like a twig."
Damon stared at Elena intently. She took a look at Kai who paced back and forth nervously before reaching her conclusion.
"Okay. Fine."
"You hear that, looney bin? I wouldn't try anything if I were you." He narrowed his eyes.
"Loud and clear." Kai retorted.
A few hours later I finally opened my eyes to see Kai beside me half asleep. I groaned, sitting up with a throbbing head.
"Aurora." His eyes opened wide but his expression was grim and full of regret.
The sight of me had brought color back to his face but he knew that he shouldn't have been that happy. He had caused pain and he felt guilty.
"Kai... I can't do this right now-- just please get away."
I held my head, rising from the couch.
"No."
He stood up as well, looking down at me.
"I'm sorry... I don't know why-- I just. I love you. I'm in love with you."
"Please... Just stop." I bit my lip suppressing the hurt in my voice.
"I need you. I need to be with you. I came tonight because I wanted to see you. I don't know what's wrong with me. So please, don't go."
His voice cracked.
"You stabbed me Kai! And I... I loved you! How... Why would you do that?"
I stormed out of the room only to be stopped by Kai. He wrapped his arms around my body and looked me in the eyes.
"Give me tonight and I promise, I will never hurt you again."
"I... Can't do that"
I pounded on his chest weakly. I hated this so much. I loved him. Despite what he had done. I acknowledged that Kai was afraid because of his past.
"Please...Aurora."
"Kai... Don't. Don't hurt me again." I looked up at him with hopeful eyes.
I reached up to his face and kissed him lips ever so sweetly.
