The jump was easy for Inej. The air rushing past her made her feel like a crow taking flight off one of the many abandon skyscrapers in the city. Though instinct made her want to reach her hands out for the next rope or swing, her body felt something different entirely.
The slap of a net as it cradled her body and cushioned her fall was a feeling she hadn't felt since she was a young girl, before she had decided that a Ghafa never uses a net. It made her feel as if she had failed, as if her foot had slipped on the thin tightrope she practiced on every night.
Prim's bright clothes flashed in her peripheral before hitting the net as strong arms helped Inej off.
Inej flinched as the man's hand wrapped around her waist, and she almost kicked out of his grasp before she settled her nerves enough to let him lift her down. Though, even afterwards she still felt the burn of his fingertips against her skin, not in a good way.
When everyone is back on solid ground the man and a woman with short black hair lead the group down a passageway.
Inej noticed that the walls were made of stone and the ceiling slopes, as though they were descending into the heart of the heart. The tunnel is lit at long intervals with lamps, so the darkness envelopes the them half the time.
Tris, the man, and the short hair woman all stop at a fork.
"For those of you who don't know, I'm Christina. And this is where we divide. The dauntless-born initiates are with me. I assume you don't need a tour." The cohort haired woman says, beckoning the dauntless-borns into the shadows where they disappear like threats to a dictator.
Inej surveyed the remaining teenagers. Most, like her, were factionless, which surprised her because dauntless was probably one of the harder initiations to pass and most factionless would not want to join a faction just to get thrust back into the world of despair.
There were seven factionless, excluding her. A curvy girl, a African American boy who she recognized, James? Jasper?, Four boys who appeared to be brothers but didn't look very similar, and Kaz.
Along with them there was two candors, three erudite, and one other amity besides Prim. Counting herself, there were 15 initiates total.
The two remaining leader address us next.
"I'm Four, most of the time I work in the control room, but I will be your initiation instructor for the next few weeks. You've already met Tris, your other instructor." As he speaks, Inej noticed his rather large ears.
"If you follow me, I'll take you all to the Pit, which you will learn to someday love." Tris turned, her ponytail coming an inch away from flicking Four in the face. He didn't seem to mind.
Tris pushes open a set of double doors. Inej understood now why they call it the Pit.
An underground cavern so massive that Inej couldn't see the the end from where the group stood, at the bottom. Uneven rock walls rose several stories up, and built into them were places for food, clothing, supplies, and leisure activities.
Narrow patches and steps carved from rock connect them, with no barriers for keeping people from falling. Inej liked that, she was always a no barrier kind of girl. The roof is not rock as well, but rather panes of glass. From above it must have looked like just another building, a solarium maybe.
Blue lanterns that grow brighter as the sun dims are scattered randomly along the stone paths.
People are everywhere, dressed so much in black it made her think of Kaz. A quick glance over at him revealed nothing, his expressions were like the locks he always picked, hard to decipher.
Four and Tris lead us to a dining-room like area. Inej found a spot by Prim on long, narrow tables. As they ate, she took note that the food was better than she expected.
Most of the new initiates sat at the same table, Inej and Prim at the end, across from Kaz. As they small talked with each other in a way that was both awkward and refreshing, Inej took notes of their names.
Brown skinned, eager Xander, silent and elusive Greyson, first jumper Jameson, and laid back Nash we're all factionless brothers.
The factionless boy Inej recognized earlier was named Jesper, a curvy girl named Nina, and Kaz were the only other factionless.
A Bulky candor boy was named Matt. A blonde gangly kid with a strange accent and erudite blue clothing was named Newt (he claimed it was a family name). A large amity boy who looked and smelled like the furthest thing from the happy faction claimed to be Gordon.
Kristy and Bethany were the two other erudites, they sat together as if they were queens and the rest of the lunch table was their kingdom.
Finally, a girl with brown hair in a checkered black and white candor dress told everyone her name was Lucy.
Inej silently observed everyone for the remainder of the meal and when Tris stood up to lead them on the next leg of the tour, she joined as they made their way down another dimly lit hallway.

Sorry I know that chapter was like kinda filler, I had more plans but wrote half of this as 1 AM and then got severe writers block. So don't be afraid to call me out if I have a spelling or grammar mistake.
Thanks you for reading!
