Jade's POV...

The abrupt pounding on my front door shattered the tranquility of my deep slumber. "Seriously, who the hell is banging on my door like they're the police?" I grumbled, slipping my feet into my vibrant lime green, furry slippers. Annoyed as can be, I snatched my robe from the foot of the bed and stormed out of my room.

"I'm coming!" I hollered as the banging persisted. As I made my way towards the door, I couldn't help but wonder who could be causing such a ruckus this early in the morning.

"Kya Boyd," she announced as I swung the door open, leaving me puzzled as to why she was standing there. "Is Bryan here?" she inquired, peering past me into my apartment.

"Well, hello to you too," I retorted sarcastically.

"Good evening. Now, is Bryan here?" she replied, rolling her eyes to the point where they almost disappeared.

"No, why?" I questioned, my curiosity piqued.

"Because he left in the middle of the night, claiming he needed to talk to you. When I woke up this morning, he was nowhere to be found. His bed looks untouched, and he's not responding to any of my calls."

"I haven't seen him since he stormed out of my apartment last night, visibly upset, around eight o'clock," I sleepily replied, still rubbing my eyes to shake off the remnants of sleep.

"Can you call him and see if he'll answer your call?" she demanded, her arms folded tightly across her chest.

"Sure," I responded, reaching into the pocket of my robe for my cell phone.

"What do you want?" Bryan's voice came through the phone, dripping with coldness.

"Where are you right now?" I asked, trying to ignore his icy tone.

"Somewhere you're not!" he spat angrily, his words slurring together.

"Are you drunk, Bryan?" I questioned, concern lacing my voice.

"What if I am? Would you even care?" he shot back, his bitterness noticeable.

"You know that I care. Why would you even ask me that?" I pleaded, my heart sinking.

"Humph, your actions last night are making me doubt your feelings for me," he sneered.

"Bryan, where the hell are you?" Kya interjected, snatching the phone from my hand. "Stay right where you are, I'm coming to get you," she declared before forcefully returning my cell phone to me.

"Kya, where is he?" I asked, my voice filled with worry.

"If Bryan wanted you to know where he was, he would've told you," she retorted, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips as she turned away from me. Her response didn't surprise me in the least. In fact, I would've been more taken aback if she had disclosed his whereabouts to one considering the uncalled for disdain she held against me. Ever since the day Bryan introduced me to Kya she's been treating me with this aloofness. With a sigh, I closed the door behind me and made my way into the living room, clutching my phone to my ear.

"Hello, it's Bryan. I'm unable to answer your call at the moment, but if you'll leave your name, number, and a brief message, I'll get back to you as soon as I can," his voicemail greeting echoed through the receiver after the third ring.

"Bryan, I know you see me calling you and I understand you're still upset about last night. Please, give me a call or come over to my place so we can have a conversation." With a heavy sigh, I retreated to my room to freshen up and prepare for the day ahead.
