July 1st

Dearest Johnny,

I got your letter which you wrote to me Thursday afternoon but I haven't gotten Wednesday letter yet. I'll probably get it Monday. I didn't get my allottment check yet but I guess its because there is only one mail delievery on Saturday and I've always gotten the check on the afternoon mail. So I guess Monday will be my pay day.

I looked for a call to-day telling me you were in Boston but from your letter I know that your're still in Norfolk. Any way I'm going to write just the same. They'll catch up to you some time even if you have shipped out.

I took Johnny, Jack + Joy to the Bazaar to-nite. The Waite Hose Co. had one in Paris Park. I had Mom get Johnny some new pants to-day. They're like those rayon one's he had last summer. I got him two pairs and a shirt and as Jack already had one pair I got him a pair of pants + a shirt. They were dressed just a like to-nite and they looked swell, Johnny is eating awfully good now but he has a slight head cold. I think it's the change in the weather. One day its so beastly hot and the next day its so darn cold.

We have to work Monday but have Tuesday off. I was going to take Monday off if you were home but as long as you aren't certain as to just when you'll get here I guess I'll go to work. If I can work steadily perhaps I can get some time off while you're home. I'd lots rather stay home while you're here.

Well darling it's Sunday afternoon now. I was too tired to finish this last night so I went to sleep with it under my pillow. Johnny and I just came from Herbert Falls. We're going to stay home from now on too. You know that saying about no place like home. That's the way I feel to-day. I've been so darn blue all day that it seems I just had to come home. I can't deny that I was disappointed that you couldn't get home for the week end. I'd sorta counted on it for so long. But I'm sure that you are going to get leave so I'm not going ot let it get the best of me. Johnny is laying on his stomach on the floor writing on this Magic Slate. He doesn't know what to do with himself now that wer're nhome. We have to go down town and get home milk and we are going to mail this letter then.

Well darling I hope you haven't forgotten how much we love you. You're pretty precious to me so please dear take care of yourself. And darling it will seem pretty swell to have you home. Some times I give most anything to have you just walk in and say you're home for good. I know that's wistful thinking but this had to end some time, doesn't it? I love you so much darling. Remember that Johnny and I are here waiting.

Lots of Love

Ella Mae

P.S. I love you! Did I ever day that before?

Sunday Night

Dearest Johnny,

Well darling I been lazy gal since I mailed that letter this afternoon. I haen't done a darn thing but sat on the front porch. I've got a lot to do but I'm going to work after I get home to-morrow night. I just couldn't seem to get into it to-night.

Johnny and I just walked up to your mothers but there isn't any one home. I think your Dad is working 7 to 3 so they probably went out some where. I didn't see your mother yesterday either.

Mrs. McGee is having company this week. Ed is here until Tuesday night and Billy is coming to-morrow for a week. Edi is just as fat as ever too.

Johnny and I are listening to the radio. He has his head on my shoulder. Just a minute or so ago he said, "Why are you writing to Daddy. He's coming home to-morrow." Son is so sure you're going to come home. He's a darn good boy but I know he gets lonesome too. He's trying to coax me into telling what you have for him.
