missy's pov :
when the dismissal bell rang, me and y/n walked out of class just talking. she said goodbye and started to walk over to the bench when i stopped her. "wait!" she turned around. "do you want to come over?" "really?" she asked. "yeah." i smiled. "okay. i just have to go make a quick phone call." she walked over to the phone and i started talking to billy.y/n pov:
missy just asked me to come over to her house and im so excited. i just hope ms. whitetaker says yes. i dial in her number and let it ring. after three rings i hear a raspy, "what?" followed by a nasty cough. i cringe at this and then speak. "ms. whitetaker?" "who's this?" "y/n." "oh. what do you want brat. i told you you were walking back to the orphanage this morning when we got in the car." "i know. i was just calling to ask if i could go over to my friends house. she invited me over." "girl you know i don't care what happens to you. but just so you know there is only enough food for everyone but you. wanna know why? because no one cares about you. that's why your mommy left you." she laughs wickedly and then i hear the line beep. i start to tear up at this. i know it's true. no one cares about me. my deep thought is cut off by someone tapping my shoulder. i turn around and see missy. i quickly wipe away my tears and smile. "so can you come over?" she asks, with a concerned look on her face. she knows somethings wrong. i can feel it. "yes i can." "yay!" she cheers and we walk over to her moms car. i get in and realize it's mary cooper, the lady i ran into earlier. she recognizes me as well. "hey darling! it's nice to see your pretty little face again!" she says with a bright smile. "you know y/n?" missy asks. "yes. i ran into her this morning when i was leaving. i was out of the car because me and brenda were talking. that's when i bumped into her." "oh. that's cool!" missy grins. i look at missy and then mary. i feel at ease. i feel safe.missy's pov:
apparently my mom already knows y/n, so this makes her coming over infinity times better. "so, missy, how was your day?" my mom asks. the question i've been waiting for. as soon as my mouth opens, words come out of my mouth faster then my dad can down a beer. "okay so this morning when y/n walked in, i was talking to heather b. and then i look over and see y/n talking to marcus and i was like, "she looks mad." and then i see marcus slam all of her papers out of her hand and then he walks away like he's proud or something. so then i ignore heather and i run over to y/n and help her pick up all her papers and i introduce myself and then i pick up her schedule and notice we have EVERY class together so i was stoked and then in mr. fraudbottoms class i asked him if she could sit next to me and he said yeah and then he told heather to move and then she scoffed and said, "ugh why do i have to sit next to baby hippo? look at him he's so ugly." or whatever and y/n was like, "just shut up and sit down." and heather was in shock and i was just like so proud of her and then we just sat next to each other in every class and today was just so much fun and then she let billy sit next to us at lunch which heather would never and she's just so cool." my mom just smiles. "well if yall want we can invite billy over for dinner." she suggested. y/n looked confused. "oh he's our neighbor." i answered her mind question. her confused look went into an "ohhhhhhh." look. "maybe. what's for dinner?" i asked my mom. "shelly's favorite. spaghetti and hotdogs." "oh billy doesn't like that." my mom nodded and me and y/n went back to talking until we pulled into the driveway.
