The crowd was full of students, seniors, and juniors.

You're at the school prom, hanging out with your friends. You noticed your best friend, Heeseung, isn't with you.

You asked the people around, but nobody knows.

On the way out of the hall room, you noticed someone in the corner of the room. Hugging his own legs, his face isn't revealed.

It sounded like he was crying. You checked on him,

It was Heeseung, crying and sobbing alone.

You asked him what happened.

"I can't anymore. She's with another guy.
She cheated.."

Heeseung looked at you with tears in his eyes. "She cheated on me with the guy she always told me not to worry about," he said, looking down, holding his head as he cried more.
"He's way better than me... I should have seen it coming."

He continued to sob, clearly heartbroken by the news. "She's been hanging out with him behind my back... I feel so stupid for not realizing it sooner."
He takes deep breaths, trying to calm down.
"I don't even know if she loved me at all."

"Heeseung, don't say that."

He looks at you, his eyes still watery.
"But it's true. She cheated on me, which means she didn't love me as much as I thought she did." He wipes away his tears, looking down again.

"I thought we had something special, but clearly I was mistaken."

"She was great, Heeseung. If only you listened to me and Jay."

Heeseung looks up at you with a mix of anger and sadness in his eyes. "I know, I know... you both told me to be careful, but I didn't listen. I thought she loved me, that I was special to her." He clenches his fists, the pain of the situation still raw.
"I trusted her, and she betrayed me."

"Relax," you say, holding his hands.

You watch as he takes a deep breath and lets out a sigh, trying to calm himself down.
He looks at you, holding your hands in his. "Sorry, I'm just... I'm so angry with her, with myself, for being so stupid."

"It happens." You say

Heeseung nods, his grip on your hands tightening slightly. "I know. It hurts so much, though. To think that she was with another guy behind my back... it makes me feel like everything was a lie."

He takes another deep breath, trying to steady his emotions. "I just can't help but think, What if I wasn't good enough for her? What if he's better than me in every way?"

He looks at you, his eyes pleading for reassurance. "I keep thinking about all the times we spent together.. the things we said to each other.. were they all just lies?"

You sat beside him on the floor of the hallway, just listening to him rant and trying your best to comfort him.

He leans against the wall, looking up at the ceiling as he continues to vent.

"I just can't wrap my head around it. How could she do this to me? I thought we were happy together. I thought she loved me as much as I loved her."

He lets out a bitter laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "I guess I was just fooling myself, huh? I thought that I was special to her and that we had something real."

After some time, you had enough and stood up. "Heeseung, you can't keep crying, especially on prom night. We should enjoy the night."

He looks up at you, his eyes red and puffy from crying. "I know. I know it's ridiculous for me to be moping like this on prom night."

"Let's go have fun, Heeseung."

He takes a deep breath, trying to snap himself out of his sadness. "Okay, you're right. It's prom night; I should be having fun, not sulking in the corner like a loser."

He stands up, wiping away his tears and straightening his suit. "Lead the way; I'm ready to forget about her and have some fun."

"Come here," you say.

He approaches you with an air of nervousness about him. "What is it?"

You grab a tissue from your purse and wipe his tears. "You look great."

He lets out a small chuckle, feeling slightly embarrassed by your gesture. "Thanks.. I guess I don't look like such a mess after all, huh?"

He glances down at himself, smoothing out his suit. "Maybe I should stop feeling sorry for myself and start embracing the night. It is prom after all."

"You can always cry tomorrow, but tonight let's enjoy," you smile, holding his hand.

He squeezes your hand, a small smile forming on his face. "You're right. Tonight is for having fun, not for wallowing in sadness."

He follows you as you lead him back to the party. "Thanks for knocking some sense into me. I'd probably still be sitting by myself in that corner moping if you hadn't come along."

During the prom

You two were having a good conversation, laughing and joking around, when suddenly Heeseung's ex appeared in front of us.

His expression darkened as he saw her approach, his grip on the table slightly tightening.

"What do you want?" he said in a cold tone, not hiding his disdain for her.

She looked at Heeseung with a mix of guilt and embarrassment on her face. "Can we talk?" She said it softly, looking at Heeseung with pleading eyes.

You sit there watching Heeseung.

Heeseung hesitates for a moment; his expression is conflicted. He glances at you, then back at his ex, before letting out a heavy sigh.

"Fine. But make it quick."

He stands up and walks away from the table, gesturing for his ex to follow him. You are left sitting alone, wondering what they are talking about. You can't help but feel curious and a little worried.

As they walk away, you can only watch from a distance, not being able to hear what they are saying. You can see Heeseung's body language; he seems tense and guarded, while his ex is attempting to talk to him, presumably apologizing or explaining herself.

They talk for a few minutes; their conversation is animated and intense. His expression remains cold and closed off, while his ex seems more emotional.

It's clear that they're in the middle of a heated discussion, with Heeseung not giving her the forgiveness she's hoping for.

Eventually, the conversation comes to an end. Heeseung says something that you can't hear; his voice is firm and final. His ex looks devastated, on the verge of tears. She says something else, but he shakes his head and turns away, walking back towards the table.

As he approaches the table, you can see the tension still etched on his face. He sits back down next to you, letting out a long exhale.

"Everything alright?"

He nods, but his expression is still closed off. "Yeah, it's fine. I just had to clear a few things up with my ex, that's all."

He's trying to act nonchalant, but you can tell that the conversation has affected him.

He fidgets with a napkin, avoiding eye contact with you.

"So, are you two still together?" You ask

He lets out a bitter laugh, shaking his head.
"No, definitely not. I'm done with her. I just wanted to make it clear to her that we're over for good."

You softly smiled, mumbling finally.

He looks at you, noticing your mumbled comment. A small smile appears on his face. "What was that you said?"

"Oh, nothing," you say, looking away, avoiding eye contact with him.

He raises an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Oh, come on, I heard you say something. Spill it."

"I promise you, I didn't say anything."

"Okay, fine, I believe you," he chuckles.

You softly smirked, looking back at him.

Everything is going to go as planned...
