I sat there in total desperation as my father yelled on the phone in clear frustration with my sister over the phone.
"What the fuck do you mean you aren't doing this? You are already married to him. Stop fucking around. Emily, I swear to God that I will find you and drop you off at his doorstep. We made a deal, Emily, for our family; he had to marry one of you. You were the one who wanted the money and seemed the most interested in him. Whatever, enjoy your freedom before I get you. Your sister will be staying in your place as well until I find you. They don't even know of her existence. We can't let them know we broke the contract; we will be ruined."
Me? Why me?! I don't want a husband. I've never even kissed someone before. I'd rather be reading than dealing with boys. I hope he finds her soon.
I sigh deeply, looking at the fabric that lies beneath my feet.
We were driving to his house. The engine was making a low rumble as we approached.
They think she's doing some work out of town and not fucking around with other people. Saying she isn't going back to him.
We pull up to a massive house. The dude is overcompensating. I open my door when a massive dog runs up to me. Licking me profusely. "Haha haha. Who's a good boy?"As I petted him, Haha, take me on a date first, haha. "Haha, come on, big boy, it's hot outside," I say, lightly pushing him, petting his head one more time as I kneel. Floppy his ears. Checking his tag, Atlas is engraved. Before getting up, I look up and catch a confident, handsome man looking confused.
He was squinting his eyes as if to focus on me. Very few people could tell my sister and me apart; my face and body are slightly slimmer than hers. Other than that, it's copy and paste. I do have a few scars that she doesn't. I played a lot more rough than my prissy, snobby sister.
"How was your trip, Emily?" He asked me well, my sister. (My name is Scarlet)
"It was wonderful. Thanks for asking." I smile at him, having no earthly idea who the fuck he is.
My father says, "Alexander, did you miss your wife?"
He gives me clues nonchalantly.
The man in front of me screams danger. Run the other way! He is my pretend husband.
"Indeed." He still has his eyes and brows showing confusion.
"Well, if you want to, once I get inside, if you are hungry, I can make you some lunch," I said, looking at my watch.
I was not looking up at him, waiting for his reply.
"If you don't mind cooking for a couple of friends that are over?" He asked me again with a question.
I try not to read into his seemingly confused written face.
"Absolutely no problem! I'll just set my bags inside."
I say it with a big smile and start rolling my suitcase. To what feels like my impending doom.
"Bye, Dad, I love you," I try to say as convincingly as possible.
I haven't seen my sister in years. What is she even like? How do I know if I'm acting like her? Whatever, I won't have to wait long enough for them to even notice I'm not her. My dad drives off as I stroll into the house.
Wow. Breathtaking.
A maid comes by and says, "Miss, let me take your bags up to y'all's room."
I can't help but hear y'all of fucking course they share a fucking room they are married. What was I thinking?!
"Oh, thank you so much! I like your braid." I point to her braid.
She gives me a shocked expression before staring at me once more and taking the bag from my hand.
"Come on. My coworkers are waiting in the living room." He says this as I stand there. I didn't even know where the kitchen was to make food.
I followed behind his quick gate. His strides are long.
I stop at the kitchen, glancing to the side at the big men who sit around the table looking at paperwork. He walks in and closes the glass door.
He speaks to them and quickly glances at me. I wash my hands.
Hmm, I didn't ask if they wanted any specifics or had allergies.
I walk slowly to the glass door. Feeling multiple gazes on me and once again confused faces.
I knock once softly and say, "Come in."
"I'm super sorry about interrupting. I was wondering if anyone had any food allergies or anything before I made lunch for everyone." I ask, looking at them and waiting for their response.
"Just me, I have a shellfish allergy," a guy says.
"Okay, no worries. Thanks. Sorry again." I said, closing the door behind me and hearing muffled voices.
"Ti sto dicendo che non è mia moglie. Ho bisogno che tutti soprano cosa sta succedendo."
{I'm telling you that is not my wife. I need everyone to find out what's going on. }
"Sono d'accordo che tua moglie non cucinerebbe in questo momento. Odiava anche Atlas"
{i agree your wife not be would be cooking right now. She also hated Atlas}
"Non preoccuparti capo, scopriremo cosa sta succedendo," I hear another voice say as I cook.
{no worries, boss, we will find out what's going on}
I continued cooking, and the heavenly smell quickly filled the air.
My timer is beeping. I pulled the food out of the oven. Setting it on the stone and turning it off. I know the voices are Italian or Spanish, maybe. I am unsure of what they are even saying.
I grab myself a small plate and set it on the island. Knocking softly on the glass door once again.
They all look at me.
"Come in," he says, staring at me intently.
I open the door.
"Whenever you guys are ready, the food is ready," I say with a small smile that I am about to close the door.
"Don't close the door; we are right behind you," Alexander says.
I keep the door open, grab my small plate of food, and sit at the bar.
All the men stroll in to get their plates.
Alexander looks at my plate and looks even more iterated, taking my plate from in front of me. Adding more food and setting it back down without saying a word to me.
What the heck?
"You've lost weight on your little trip. You need to eat more. Is that how you have been eating since you were gone? If so, that's definitely why." He softly whispers to me.
"Oh no, I've just been homesick," I say as confidently as possible.
He takes a bite of food, moaning slightly.
"Dang, that's fucking good," he says, shoving his mouth with food.
He eventually gets up to go to the bathroom.
I turn to a random guy.
"Do you happen to have a phone I could please borrow? I promised my grandmother I would call her."
He looked appalled and confused before he handed me his phone.
"Thank you!" I said, hugging him quickly and calling my grandmother.
