Pain. Unexplainable pain. It was difficult for Cyra to breathe. As if someone had punctured both of her lungs. She was afraid to open her eyes, or she couldn't. She couldn't tell. She knew she wasn't the same Cyra who had fallen asleep.
Her body shook from being cold. Too cold for any ordinary human to bear. The air itself was wet. Her thought process was that if she kept her eyes closed and assessed her situation without looking, everything would be fine. It has to be fine.
"You know they can sense when someone is conscience, right?' if her head didn't hurt already, it hurt by the sound of that woman's voice.
"Must you ruin a good night's sleep?' she had no control over what she was saying. It clicked that she wasn't Cyra.
"To see you suffer? Why, of course!" that chuckle that followed made Esmeray's skin crawl. "Add in getting a new title to my name for this."
"Selen, whoever appointed you to be my handler needs to be demoted," Esmeray grunted as she stood, holding her ribs. Purple, blue, and green splotches on her skin reminded her where they had hit the hardest.
"Earthshaker and Storm Bringer himself." Poseidon. "Selen The False Goddess Slayer."
"Kind of wordy." Esmeray mumbled.
She thinks that Zeus may have had a say in this as well. That say would be granting his brother permission to do as his heart desires. When it comes to anything involving Lilith, Hades is silenced by The Council of The Gods. More are in favor of his two brothers than him. Making those votes a landside of a win.
Esmeray just shook her head lightly to not make the ache in her head worse. The cold, damp stone beneath her feet reminded her that after performing all kinds of physical torture on her, they threw her down this stone well. Likely shielding the opening so she couldn't escape she tried. Keeping a light, but freezing drizzle of rain.
She knew what that meant as well. The colder it is, the less likely she is to cause the hole in the ground to boil. Water contained in an area like this with water is like a tea kettle. Eventually, steam would burst out of the top. The more likely Esmeray could throw herself out of here.
Of course, fire can burn in cold temperatures. Those who have built fires in the harshness of cold weather can confirm that. What fire can't do is burn while its materials are wet. It would take quite some time, and quite some energy to start.
Overall, Esmeray was a freezing pile of sopping wet ashes. Her white hair was now gray and brown from the soot they used to attempt to burn her and the dirt of the straight-down cave. The dress she had worn to Princess Sooha's ball was torn up and charred. All she could do was sigh through a shaking jaw.
Selen laughed at the hopelessness of the "fake" goddess. Esmeray shot her daggers, wishing that she wasn't so cold and wet to burn the bitch who currently mocked her. The way Selen grabbed Esmeray's arm had her hissing in pain. It was an intentionally tight grip. One moment they're in the well. Next, they stood in front of a portion of The Council of The Gods. What caught Esmeray's attention first was a sniffle. Her head shot in that direction. Her mother, Lilith, sat there in tears.
Esmeray's heart shattered. Not only was her mother forced to watch the torture of her only living child, but she was heavily pregnant. Lilith's long, drawn out curse that Esmeray wishes they would break. A child a week. Esmeray escaped and ran for 1,253 weeks. Not including the year she hid in her mother's cave, using magic to age progress until she could run as far away as possible.
