Aiden's POV

The twins were first in the line followed by Ben and Ashlyn, then me, and then [Y/N] behind me. As the others ran into the house, I felt my leg pop. Shit. It was because of that jump I took off the wall. Maybe I should've gone down the rope. Without me knowing, I dropped to the floor, trying to ease the pain.

"Woah, are you okay?" [Y/N] asked, stopping just before the last step up to the porch. They took a look at my ankle, and tensed up. "You sprung it after the drop, didn't you, 'Mr. Durable'? You ran all the way here like that? You should've just--"

[Y/N] was cut off, but I didn't know why until they yelled "AIDEN, MOVE!" and dropped their flashlight. I turned to them, only to be met with the sight of [Y/N]'s shirt collar being grabbed by a black hand. "[Y/N]!" I yelled, pouncing up to grab them, but my ankle gave out at the right moment and I fell to the ground again.

I saw their head hit the roof of the porch, before disappearing to the rooftop. I yelled out their name again. "[Y/N]!" And that was the first time I ever felt myself stop smiling.

Tyler must have heard my scream, because he came rushing out of the house. "What are you doing?!" He asked, his voice a bit panicked. I was busy trying to get myself onto the roof. "Help me get up here, goddammit!"

Tyler assisted me, asking me "can you tell me what's going on now?"

"A phantom stole [Y/N], and I'm going to get them back." I said as I finally wiggled my way onto the roof. I shook my head as I stood up, my vision blurry for a second, but when it came back, I saw the phantom holding them down by the neck, about to attack [Y/N] with its claw. But suddenly, a bullet hit its head, and it went unconscious. It fell onto [Y/N], pulling them down a bit.

"Here." I said, trying to grab their hand and pull them up. What I didn't notice was that the phantom had a grip on [Y/N], and grabbed their leg. I heard [Y/N] gasp as the phantom pulled them down, out of my reach.

My eyes widened as the phantom went limp, but [Y/N] was rolling down the rooftop. I tried to jump up, to grab them. I ran down the tiled roof, trying not to slip myself. But I was too late.

CRACK.

---------------

My heart dropped as I saw [Y/N]'s limp body fall off the roof, followed by that sound. What. The. Hell. Just. Happened. I ran back to the side Tyler was on, and slowly got off there. There were a few phantoms there, running because the radio had been broken. But I didn't care. I immediately ran back to the other side of the house, and the sight was something I hoped my eyes were lying to me.

[Y/N]'s eyes were open, sure. But they were on their stomach, blood dripping from their head. And their neck... was snapped farther than a normal neck could even go. Using math, it was definitely over 90 degrees. It was around 135 degrees.

I felt bile build up in my throat as I fell to [Y/N]'s side, holding their busted-up corpse in my arms. I desperately checked for a heartbeat, hoping they were just unconscious. Nothing.

I heard the jeep on the other side of the house start up, so I grabbed [Y/N]'s body and tried my best to run over to the car, balancing my sprained ankle and the person in my arms. I saw the others, meaning Ashlyn and Ben, waving to me to hurry up. But I will never forget the expression when they saw [Y/N]. Ben silently ran to me, grabbing [Y/N] out of my arms, while Ash came to help me with my leg.

After we got situated in the car, a few phantoms rushed to the engine. Taylor jump-started the car, and drove off to the graveyard. I didn't realize how tightly I was grasping [Y/N] in my arms. They were positioned on me, basically, but now wasn't the time for my intrusive thoughts.
