Stanford, California

Though Sierra's weeks were increasingly filled with the pressures of school and tennis, her growing relationship with Art seemed to be a soothing distraction. It was one of those game days, a ritual in itself for Sierra and Tashi. Every time they had a match, they would warm up together. Tashi had an intense ritual of meditation and stretching before the match, an intricate routine that Sierra found both fascinating and peculiar, yet she never minded going along with it. As the duo finished their game of doubles which they had just won, the cheers of the crowd roared in the background, a thrilling symphony of support and anticipation. Sierra and Tashi made their way to their coach to find out which courts they'd be playing singles on next. Tashi was assigned to court one, while Sierra was set for court two. As they separated to head to their respective courts, Sierra's eyes scanned the stands, and she spotted Art. Her face lit up with a smile, and she blew a light kiss towards her boyfriend. But then, another figure caught her attention.

"Holy shit, Tashi," Sierra exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement.

"What?" Tashi responded, her focus still firmly in game mode as she continued her stretches, her movements precise and controlled.

"Howard Sloane! You know, tennis icon, the guy who's coached like dozens of Open champions?" Sierra's voice was filled with awe as she gestured towards the stands.

Tashi's head snapped up, her eyes following Sierra's gaze. "Oh shit, he's here? Now?" she said, a rare hint of nervousness creeping into her voice.

"Yep, now," Sierra confirmed, her excitement palpable. "Now I want my match to be over with so I can say hi," she added with a playful jeer.

"He's scouting," Tashi said, her tone suddenly sharp and serious.

"What?" Sierra asked, her excitement giving way to confusion.

"He's looking for talent to coach professionally," Tashi explained, her usual calm demeanor replaced with a touch of anxiety.

"Well, isn't it perfect he's here?" Sierra replied, her optimism undeterred.

"No, I'm not ready," Tashi shot back, her voice tense as she shook out her arms.

"You're always ready," Sierra countered, her tone filled with unwavering confidence in her friend.

"Not for him! I'm ready to win, but not to impress him," Tashi replied, her eyes narrowing as she tried to refocus.

Sierra stepped closer, placing a reassuring hand on Tashi's shoulder. "Hey, just do what you always do. Play your game. You've got this, your fucking Tashi Duncan" she said softly, giving her friend a supportive squeeze before heading towards her own court.

Tashi's unusual nervousness couldn't help but affect Sierra. Tashi was always the epitome of calm and collected, and seeing her rattled sent a ripple of doubt through Sierra's mind. She glanced over at her friend, whose usually steady hands were now fidgeting slightly, and it made Sierra wonder if she should be nervous that Howard Sloane was here.
