Christian had been back to work for some time now. Back and busier than usual, so Jade spends most of her time at home, with Daniel, or going to see her mom.

Jade was cooking dinner and listening to music when her phone rang.

"Hi, mom" she answered Laura's FaceTime.

"Hey, sweetheart. What are you up to?"

"Making dinner".

"This late?"

"Eh, Christian's not home yet anyways and I like to eat with him. Where are you?"

"On my way home?"

"How was the date?"

"It was um really good".

"Really?" Jade asked excitedly "wait, is this the same guy from the weekend?"

"It is, Matthew".

"Okay mom, we're making progress".

"It only took six first dates" Laura playfully rolled her eyes.

"Maybe that's a good thing. So you really like him?"

"I think I do. He's very sweet and down to earth".

"Tell me about him?" Jade asked, she could see Laura blushing already.

"He's a bank manager. He's 41, no kids. He's been married, but they got divorced almost three years ago. He's a car guy, like classic cars, so that's a hobby of his when he finds the time. Um, what else, oh he is originally from the south so that's where his family is. He has two sisters and a brother and a few nieces and nephews from them. He is the second oldest though".

"Wow, you really covered ground on these dates. Does he know you have kids?"

"He does, he likes kids, just doesn't have any".

"Did you um, talk about your marriage?"

"I did, not entirely, but I covered the whole 'my husband died in a freak accident and my child had cancer' story".

"Okay. So when's your next date planned for?"

"The end of the week, after Thanksgiving. When do you and Christian leave for San Diego?" Laura asked.

"Tomorrow afternoon. We come back Tuesday morning".

"Okay, should be fun".

"It should be, are you sure you don't want to come for Thanksgiving?"

"I'm sure, I haven't really formally met Sarah's parents and they invited us. It would be rude not to go. Not to mention your brother has been nagging me about it for a week" Laura laughed "Sarah's gonna stay with us Wednesday then we'll head over to their house for dinner".

"Good, they get to spend time together".

"Mhm. I can tell something happened with them, but he won't say. Luckily it seems like it passed".

"Yea, luckily. Is he home?"

"He should be. He was with Trent after school today since it's their last day before break".

"Okay good".

"Did he tell you about his permit?"

"No, what about it?" Jade asked.

"He takes his exam on Tuesday. He is very eager to drive".

"I'm sure he is, almost all his friends are driving already and he's already 16".

"That's true. Well don't mention that I said anything, wait until he tells you".

"I will" Jade agreed.
