"Mom, the last four dresses you've put on have been pretty" Jade said from Laura's bed while she watched her get ready.

"They've been pretty, but are they flattering on me?"

"They're very flattering, you look beautiful. Besides, it's a late lunch, simple is good".

"You're right. Goodness, I'm nervous. I don't remember how to go on dates".

"Stop it, you'll be fine. Just be yourself and relax".

"Is this weird? You can tell me if it's weird".

"If what's weird?" Jade asked.

"Watching me go on a date. I'm your old mom, I mean you remember dad and I, I don't want you to feel awkward about this".

"I don't and of course I remember you and dad. I remember how much you loved each other and how happy you made each other, but I remember him dying too. I remember how long you grieved and how hard you worked to keep his memory around. You have been amazing, you deserve to be happy in whatever form it is".

"Thank you, sweetheart" Laura smiled and Jade nodded.

"Come on, let me finish your eyeliner" Jade said before she got up. Laura finished getting ready for the next half hour before it was time for her to go.

"Okay, don't forget to be at his appointment fifteen minutes early. Nicholas, if you're not feeling well afterwards, no party, I mean it. Please, keep an eye on him. Text me when you drop him-".

"Mom, I've got it" Jade interrupted her rambling.

"Of course".

"Have fun" Nick said before Laura left.

"Okay, we're gonna leave in about half an hour. Did you still want me to drop you off at that party?" Jade asked him.

"Yea, I told Sarah I'd come after my appointment. I think her mom's gonna pick us up".

"Alright, either or. You can't eat before we leave, but we can grab food on the way to the party".

"That sounds fine" he said and she nodded. They sat around for a bit longer before heading to his appointment.

"Hi, Ryan?" Laura asked as she reached the table that he sat at, he matched his picture.

"Oh, Laura, hi" he looked up from his phone and stood to greet her.

"It's nice to meet you".

"You as well".

"Were you waiting long?" She asked as started to look at the menu.

"Oh, not at all, no worries. You look beautiful".

"Thank you so much. You clean up very nice yourself. So have you been here?"

"I've been once, but the food was amazing, I was glad to have a reason to come back".

"Well then I'm glad I could help" she laughed and he smiled at that. Their server came over minutes after to take their orders before they started talking again.

"So, Harriet told me that you recently started at the company".

"Recently enough, yes".

"Do you enjoy sales?"

"I don't hate it. It pays the bills, so I can't complain. Besides, my coworkers make the day better, I'm grateful".
