***January 2019***
Alex POV
"Ball!" I call and Serv sends me a ball, myself smashing it into the net.
I smile and turn back, "Good job, babe!"
I jog back towards Dave.
"Nice job, Alex, that's it for today."
I smile and hold up my hand, "Thanks, Dave. See you later."
I grab my water and Serv walks up next to me, "You're on fire."
I set my water down and nod.
He's about to speak when I hear a throat clearing.
We turn and see a girl no older than 13 staring at us.
Shes fidgeting with her hands and sighs, "Um. Can I use the uh field, uh please?"
I smile softly, "Yeah, of course, we're finished with it."
She nods to herself and turns to run onto the field.
I look around, searching for an adult and don't see anyone.
I then find the girl again, who is lining up a penalty.
Even though it's 80 degrees outside, she's wearing a long sleeve shirt, which makes me frown.
"What're you doing, babe?" Serv asks me.
I turn to look at him then turn back to the girl, "I don't know, there's something about this girl. There's no adult and she's wearing long sleeves in the dead of the day."
He bobs his head, "Well, she looked old enough to be out here without an adult."
"Yeah, well it's Wednesday so I'm pretty sure she should be in school." I deadpan.
His eyes widen, "Oh."
I press a kiss to his cheek and turn, "I'm going to go talk to her."
I start walking until I get closer, "Hey, can I play with you?"
I can tell that I startled her when she jumps and backs away.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I say.
She bites her lip and nods, "It's um- it's okay."
I smile softly, "Okay. So can I play with you?"
Her eyes widen, "Y-yeah, th-that's okay."
I nod, "Cool."
She passes the ball to me and I pass it back.
After a few minutes of silence, I speak up, "So, do you play?"
She pauses, "Um, no. I'm not allowed to."
I pause, "Why not? You're pretty good."
She shrugs, "Just not allowed."
