Alex POV
I look at my watch, and look up, watching Michaela pass the ball with Sydney.
I dial the number and put the phone up to my ear.
"Hello, this is the Orlando department of child and family services. How may I direct your call?"
"Hi, I have a girl with me, she was part of the trafficking ring that was busted this morning. I'm hoping to speak with her social worker."
"Michaela Richards?"
"Yes, that must be her. She showed up at my home today." I say and watch Michaela.
"Her school called and the police have been out looking for her. I'll transfer you to her social worker, Carrie."
"Great, thanks." I say and wait.
"Hello, this is Carrie." I hear.
"Hi, my name is Alex Carrasco. I have Michaela Richards with me."
"Oh my god. Thank god. We just got her into our custody this morning." She says.
I nod, "I know. She showed up at my house - I gave her my contact if she ever needed it when I saw her at a soccer field."
"I told the police to look there. She had a lot of soccer posters in her room. I will come pick her up."
I sigh, "Can I inquire about it something?"
"Sure!"
"My husband and I are not foster parents, but would we able to do that quickly?" I ask.
"We could expedite it, get you set up with an application, a home visit, and such."
I bob my head up and down, "Where is she staying now? And her siblings?"
"Michaela doesn't know this, but those two kids are not actually her siblings."
My eyes widen, "What?"
"Yes ma'am, I can explain more when I come to get her."
I give her our address and look back at Michaela.
'She's losing everything.'
"Please bring an application. My husband and I will talk."
"Thanks and see you soon." She says and hangs up.
I look out at Michaela who gets a pass from Sydney and scores.
"Michaela!" I call.
Her head snaps up and she walks over.
"Hey. So I got ahold of your social worker."
Her eyes widen.
"She's going to meet us at my house. We're going to talk, figure something out. You can't stay at our house." I say calmly.
Her shoulders slump.
"Yet."
Her head snaps up.
I bob my head, "We have to talk through some stuff. But I'm going to figure it out. I just need you to go to school and focus on staying out of trouble."
She looks down and nods then walks past and stands by the passenger door.
I unlock it and she hops in.
I sigh and get in, starting the car, and heading home.
I pull in the driveway and see a car out front.
"That's Carrie." I say and get out.
Michaela doesn't move and Carrie walks up.
"Hi, I'm Alex."
