the aroma of freshly baked blueberry muffins filled the air as luke walked into the cozy cafe. he glanced at his phone, a nervous flutter in his stomach. he was supposed to meet estella here, but he was running late. he'd been pacing his apartment for the past fifteen minutes, trying to decide what to say.

he found her at a table by the window, a book open on the table, a single blueberry muffin half-eaten in front of her. she looked up as he approached, a smile lighting up her face.

'hey, you made it!' she said, her voice as warm as the sunlight streaming through the window.

'sorry i'm late,' luke said, taking the seat across from her. 'traffic was a nightmare.'

'no worries,' she said, her smile widening. 'i just started reading this new book, it's amazing.'

as they talked, luke felt his nervousness melt away. estella was easy to be around, her laughter contagious, her stories engaging. a month ago, they had been strangers, but their shared passion for books and their mutual love for the local indie bookstore had forged a bond.

they talked for hours, losing track of time as they discussed everything from their favorite authors to their dreams for the future. luke found himself captivated by her intelligence, her wit, and her infectious enthusiasm for life. he realized he was falling for her, hard.

as the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the cafe, luke knew he had to say something. he took a deep breath.

'estella,' he began, his voice a little shaky. 'i've really enjoyed getting to know you these past few weeks.'

her eyes met his, her expression curious.

'i was wondering,' he continued, 'if you'd like to go on a real date sometime, like a proper one, where we don't talk about books the entire time.'

estella's cheeks flushed a delicate pink. 'i'd love that,' she said, a shy smile playing on her lips.

'and,' luke continued, taking another breath, 'i know it's early, but i've been thinking...' he paused, his heart hammering in his chest. 'would you be my girlfriend?'

estella's eyes widened, a playful twinkle in them. 'you know,' she said, 'that's a pretty bold question after just one month.'

'i know,' he said, his voice filled with a nervous laugh. 'but i just can't imagine not being around you anymore. you're amazing, estella, and i really like you.'

she looked at him for a long moment, then a smile broke out on her face, lighting up her entire being. 'well, luke,' she said, her voice soft and sweet, 'i think i like you too.'

and with that, luke felt a surge of happiness he'd never known before. he knew this was just the beginning of something special, a love story written in the pages of their lives, a story that had just begun, thanks to a shared love for books and a chance encounter at a cozy cafe.
