"SAVANNAHHHHH!!!!"

Hearing my mother shout my name for what seems like the 100th time this morning makes me mentally groan.

Kiss me teeth mon, who the fuck invented school??

"yes mommy, mah come"

Removing the sheet from over my head and reaching for my phone on the night stand, almost dropping it from the sudden vibration. Bringing it to my face I realised that my 6' o clock alarm had just gone off.

Throwing the phone to the side as I rushed off the bed to get through my door.

yuh cah late fi the first day of school ennuh, how could u have really overslept

Deciding to ignore my subconscious I headed into the bathroom, quickly disregarding my pajama set as I slid the door of the shower open and made my way in. Feeling the cold water hit my chest, I reached over for my rag and body wash to have a quick shower.

MINITES LATER.....

Putting my stuffed animal in between my two pillows I looked at my watch to check the time, it was now 7' o clock.

"Savy?"
"Yuh nuh ready?, leff mah guh leff ennuh my girl"

Turning around to see my father standing at the door frame dressed in a suit and tie, my eyebrows furrowed in a confused look.

"a weh yah guh today, mek you look suh nice daddy?" I asked as I took up my bag and made my way to the door.

Walking a head of me was my father Kirk, a taxi driver that wore nothing otherwise from the blue taxi operating shirt and black pants when working so his sudden change in attire brought questions to thoughts. Hearing him hiss his teeth brought me back to reality which made me realise we were now at the car.

Getting into the front seat, he took out two five hundred dollar bills and handed them to me, telling me to let it serve me for the next three days. Pushing the money into my pocket I made a mental note not to spend it.

I come from a family of two hard workers, even though they worked various hours to try and make ends meet it never seemed like enough but I'm grateful for whatever I was given. My mother is a nurse who works at the Kingston Public Hospital and my father a taxi driver who ran 20 route but made it his duty to drop me to school every morning and picked me up most evenings.

Taking out my phone and connecting it to the speaker I opened Spotify and started to play "School" by Vybz Kartel to help ease my first day nerves.

"I will try my best to ensure that he's at school everyday this term Mr.Ankle, it's just that things have been a little tough since the other day" my mother replied to my Principal's comment.

Things has always been tough, so if the other day means from when mi born then yeah things tough from the other day.

As the meeting with my mother and principal came to end, I grabbed my bag and swung it threw my arm unto my shoulder stepping out his office. Now feeling the hot sun instead of the cool ac in the top of my head I quickly turn my face down to look at my shoes. Seeing a small group of shadows on the ground making their way over to me I looked up from my worn out clarks to now see my friend group walking towards me.

Group?? my subconscious asks

Yes group, a group is a set of two or more things so yes group.

"Bomboclattttttt, a which breeze blow dah man yah innah di place" Kevin said with a laugh as he walked over to dab me up.
