"Yuliya!" Aleksandr shouted, as soon as he entered.
"In her room, upstairs." His father, or Batya as he referred to him ever since he had turned 18, replied calmly as he sat alone on the dining table, reading a newspaper. He looked up at Sasha and said, "Maybe you'll have better luck, son."
Vlad went straight to the kitchen after calling out a greeting to the previous Alpha of the pack.
Aleksandr ran up the stairs bypassing Anton and his old room. He could sniff Anton in his room and their mother in his sister's room. He didn't bother knocking and went straight inside to see his mother comforting the baby of the family with soothing words.
"It's all right, dear. It happens to everyone. It just means that our Yulechka is finally five years old now." His Mamasha said.
"What is it? What happened?" Aleksandr's loud baritone echoed in the small room.
Both the mother and daughter turned to look at Aleksandr.
"Shhasha.." Yuliya sobbed.
His mother however reassured him with her eyes, as a sign to calm him down. She explained, "Our Yulechka just broke her front tooth after she fell. She's crying because she thinks she is broken now. I'll let you talk to her. Make sure you both come down to eat something since she hasn't eaten anything since morning and I know you probably haven't either. "
Aleksandr rolled his eyes as he took the place his mother was inhabiting. How his mother always found out about his eating schedule was still a mystery to him.
"Yuliya, why do you think you are broken just because you lost one of your teeth? Did someone say something to you? Tell me." Aleksandr comforted his baby sister.
Yuliya didn't reply and just looked at him with tears.
"Oh, you're not gonna answer me, munchkin?" Aleksandr asked. Yuliya shook her head in response.
"I see, well, let me tell you that you remind me of Antosha when he broke his front tooth. He cried loudly too, just like you. Do you want to know how he lost his tooth?"
Yuliya nodded like Aleksandr knew she would. His baby sister was always curious about everything.
"Well then, first you have to tell me why you think you are broken. It's a fair trade, to get information, you need to sell information Yulechka. That's what I always say."
Yuliya stared at Aleksandr and he knew she was about to give in. He could read every expression on his sister's face well.
"We were playing at Maria's house and when I fell, my tooth came out. So Boris said that I am broken now since no one else has a broken or missing tooth."
"Oh, so Boris said that, did he? Boris Vitalyevich right?" Aleksandr smirked knowing Boris was in trouble now as Yuliya nodded.
"Listen Yuliya, have you ever noticed the moon on a full moon night?"
Yuliya blinked at her big brother and nodded, "Yeah, it's when everyone goes to sing to the moon."
"Exactly, we are wolves so we feel the strong urge to sing to the moon by howling. It's in perfect shape when the entire round illuminated face of the Moon is visible from Earth, right? But what happens after the full moon night? After a few days? Do you know?"
Yuliya shook her head.
"The full moon starts shrinking. The full moon starts breaking off and getting smaller and smaller slowly by slowly till it completely disappears. That's when we get the new moon. After the new moon, it regains its pieces slowly and slowly and builds itself to the perfection that we see on the full moon making us feel the urge to sing again. But when the moon is gone or when it is building itself, we do not think that it is broken or gone forever, right? We know that it will come back again, right?"
Yuliya nodded slowly. "Right."
"And it is prettier than before when it comes back, right? Just like that, your tooth will build itself again, prettier and stronger than before."
"Really, Sasha? It will come back right?" Yuliya sat up and asked.
"Really, Yulechka. It will come back stronger. You trust me right?" Aleksandr ruffled her hair.
"Yes! I won't be broken then right Sasha?" Yuliya showed a hint of a smile as she asked her brother.
"You were never broken, my dear, and no one can ever even try to break you. I promise." Aleksandr vowed and Yuliya flung herself into his arms, demanding to be carried.
Aleksandr laughed and carried her on his back as he told her about the time Anton had lost his tooth while they were having dinner. He hadn't realized what had happened until he had pulled the tooth out of his mouth and stared at it on his hand. He had let out a cry loud enough for the neighbors to barge inside their house.
As Aleksandr sat down to eat in his family home, he realized how much he suddenly needed his mate to be here with him, in his house with all his family eating together and just being together.
He needed to go and get his mate back.
And what do you know, it was the full moon tonight.
