As the weird-looking, big-eared dragon glided them through the skies, Kaeirin tried desperately not to think about the fact that Gisaea's arms were wrapped around his middle. Or the fact that every time he did think about it, tiny butterflies of betrayal would erupt in his stomach.

Close by, Raene soared through the clouds with Cyprian seated on her back.
          
The three of them were silent as they flew—the uncomfortable discussion from back in Wealdstone still seeming to linger in the atmosphere. So, as the hours passed, Kaeirin distracted himself by watching the radiant afternoon sun light up the sky—which was now a brilliant blue.
