" Freak," Sunoo coughs out as he and his friends taunt a mutant boy in class. The professor turns away to write on the board during the lecture and Sunoo laughs quietly. "I wonder why hasn't his parents given him up yet you know try to see if a cure can be found so they can be normal." Min-Gi asked and Sunoo whispered back." It's because they are also freaks too you know that don't be stupid." Min-Gi looks at Sunoo and then back to the boy in front of them. "Oh, really I guess the freak gene does run in the family."  Min-Gi laughs. That seemed to be the last straw as the boy stood, packed his bags, and left making such a commotion half the class looked back at them as Sunoo waved the boy out of the room.

The professor huffed but said nothing and resumed the lecture Min-Gi looked down a deep blush covering his face and ears Sunoo couldn't help himself and pinched the top of Min-Gi's ear muttering how cute the older one was.

Class ended at three and afterward, Sunoo received a phone call from his older sister saying he needed to come home for dinner it was important.

Before going home Sunoo needed to study for his religious study class the next day he just knew there would be a test and he couldn't fail, making his way to his dorm he sat at his desk and opened his textbook to the next subject Voodoo and Hoodoo practices, Sunoo read.

Vodou (or Voodoo) is a monotheistic religion that merges Catholic and African beliefs. It is primarily practiced in Haiti, New Orleans, and other Caribbean locations. Followers of Vodou believe in a single, supreme godhead known as Bondye (which can be equated with the Catholic God). Vodou practitioners also accept the existence of lesser beings called loa or lwa. The Voodoo dolls sold in shops are small human effigies made from two sticks tied in a cross shape, resembling a body with arms. These dolls are often covered in brightly colored cloth triangles and sometimes filled with Spanish moss. Contrary to popular misconceptions, authentic Vodou dolls serve healing purposes and are used to communicate with deceased loved ones or invoke the lwa for spiritual guidance

Remember that Vodou dolls are not used for revenge or malevolent purposes as portrayed in movies. They hold deeper spiritual significance within the Vodou tradition.

Sunoo scoffed as he continued reading being an atheist he didn't understand why he needed to take this class anyway to him it was all complete bullshit when we die that was it there was nothing to look forward to.

Sunoo closed his textbook he would study later so he told himself, he turned on the TV, The first channel was the news, and on it was a protest for mutant rights on the screen he saw a line of mutants and nonmutants with signs stating how they are people too, Sunoo laughed and texted Min-Gi to check out the local news and how stupid the protest was. "Mutants being normal what a crock of shit." He texted Min-Gi and the cute older sent a text back with the crying laughing emoji. Before he knew it time flew by and Sunoo only had forty-five minutes to get dressed and meet his sister at home.

Making sure he had everything Sunoo left his dorm building and headed toward the bus stop stopping to make sure he caught the right bus Sunoo hopped on and paid his fair, with another bus to catch he decided to sit in the back and listen to music till his stop came. Not paying attention to anything in particular just scrolling through social media when someone caught his eye he was tall and slim wearing all black except for the silver rings and piercings adorning his person, and his hair was shoulder-length and curled at the ends he seemed to sense Sunoo was watching and looked up directly at him.

They made eye contact which felt like forever his eyes sharp and dark as if his pupils were always dilated, he also had prominent features like high cheekbones and full lips that were moving but Sunoo couldn't make out what he was saying. Felling himself blush Sunoo turned away only to notice his stop was next so he pulled the chord and when he looked back the guy was gone. The bus stopped and Sunoo and a few other people got off, watching the bus leave Sunoo sighed thinking the whole interaction was weird went back to scrolling on social media while he waited for his next bus to show.

Digging his key out of his pocket Sunoo walked into his parents' home taking his shoes off in the mudroom and putting them on the shelf he walked into the foyer only to find both his parents and his sister all sitting on the sofa mid-discussion. "Well he is nineteen now they were bound to come calling." he caught the tail end of before his sister looked up and smiled at him, she got up and hugged him tight saying how much uglier he has gotten since he left for college Sunoo only smiled and said ditto then looked to his parents who looked as if they wanted to say something but couldn't, the conversation never came easy with his parents since he came out before packing his things and leaving, but at least he had his sister and that's all that mattered to him.

Sitting down for dinner Sunoo noticed his mom wasn't eating she was only pushing the food around her plate and this was concerning so he put his chopsticks down and asked, "What's wrong?" He looked at each of them as his father finally sighed and put his chopsticks down. "You're nineteen now son and I'm not going to sugarcoat this but it's time for your test you were supposed to take it last year but with you being... you know we weren't in contact, so you missed it your mom and I have been getting threatening letters and phone calls so tomorrow I am going to take you down to the city center so you can take it." Sunoo laughed. "The mutant test? You could have told me and I would have gotten it done last year when I was supposed to I guess me being gay was a good enough reason not to inform me." He said snarkily making to stand, his mother spoke up. "Sunoo that's not what he meant and you know it." Sunoo scoffed and made his way upstairs yelling that he'll be ready in the morning. Downstairs he heard his sister sigh and stand to come after him but his father solemnly tells her to leave Sunoo be.

Sunoo couldn't sleep at all so when his sister came knocking on his door that morning to wake him he was already awake and ready to go. Sunoo declined breakfast wanting to get the day over with and go back to his dorm room and back to his normal life. The drive to the city center was quiet, to say the least his sister tried lightening the mood but nothing worked when they got to the city center everyone had to pull out their identification cards before being allowed to park and enter the building. Once they got in Sunoo could only go into the next waiting area alone after signing his name and date of birth he went to sit down on an empty seat he wasn't allowed to have his cell phone once he entered the second waiting room so he had nothing to do but look at the other people there.

In the room with him were thirty other people some seemed older and others far younger than him, but as Sunoo looked around he saw the guy again from the bus next to the bolted-down vending machine eating strawberry-flavored cookies Sunoo gasped and looked away trying to go unnoticed, but his curiosity got the better of him and he looked back and the guy was staring as well his pitch black eyes stared into his soul Sunoo felt like he couldn't breathe and he was taking in to much air all at the same time it was excruciating until he felt someone shake his shoulder and call his name startled Sunoo looked up and saw a woman with a face mask on and a bright white lab coat. " Kim Sunoo? come with me please."
