I bolted down the slope, the cries of Ella sounding behind me. As I got closer, I spotted Hermione and Ron by Katie. Another Gryffindor stood by her, crying messy tears. Sam appeared at my shoulder, sounding out of breath as we walked over to the group.
Hermione spotted us first, her eyes wide and terrified as I joined her kneeling on the ground.
Katie was withering on the ground, her eyes were shifting back in forth as if in a fever dream as her body spasmed and tensed.
"She's seizing," I commented as Sam stood over us, her face expressionless other than a small crease on her brow.
"What happened?" Sam asked, turning between Hermione and the sobbing girl. Ron was doing his best to pin the girl's arms down but she was undeterred in her movements.
"Stop it Ron, you'll hurt her," I chastised, reaching out to pull him back. At the same time he sat up and a we collided awkwardly, causing me to fall to the side.
"Get away from that!" Hermione yelped, drawing me up and away. I didn't see it at first, but as Hermione pulled me, I saw the brown paper packaging and within it, a silver necklace made of delicate iron workings. It looked oddly familiar.
"It's cursed," she clarified, eyeing the thing cautiously. "Harry, Ron and I saw her drop the necklace. Leanne was with her".
"Where's Harry?"
"Off to fetch help. We tried to pick her up but it's no good. She won't stop moving."
I stood up and walked around the others before situating myself by the girl's head. Her eyes were rolling back in her head now, her mouth open as she seemed to audibly gasp for air before her muscles clamped up and she would tense and go still. Then she would move again, those audible gasps growing harsher with each inhale.
"Do you know what you're doing?" Sam asked under her breath, having followed me to the girl's shoulder.
"Madam Pomphrey usually had a potion to help those with seizure disorders," I started as I started to undo the scarf around Katie's neck. "Not to say that I've ever seen a seizure before—"
"Then what are you doing?" Ron demanded, looking unwell. In fact, he looked slightly green. Looking down at Katie again, I realized why.
Her scarf had been hiding the blood that was leaking down the back of her neck.
"What is that?" Leanne cried.
"What do you think?" Sam replied, sounding nonplussed. "Haven't you seen blood before?"
"Sam," I warned, pulling the scarf out from under Katie. I let my hands trace the back of Katie's neck and up her hairline before stopping at where her skin felt sappy from blood.
"It's just a cut. From the impact of falling," I said, catching Hermione's eye. "That's not our problem right now."
"What is?" Hermione asked, sitting forward.
"Her breathing. Somethings not right with it. She's fighting the curse to let herself breath."
"What do we do?" Sam demanded, kneeling down beside me. Leanne went into another volley of sobs while Ron looked around helplessly.
"Where's Harry?""Come on Ron, snap out of it," Hermione chided, getting his attention.
"We have to turn her on her side," I explained. I nodded to Hermione who was looking for direction. "Help me."
The group of us were in the midst of turning Katie when Hagrid's voice called out to us.
"All of yer move away! Get back!" Hagrid shouted. "Lemme see her."
