"Jesus Christ Ethan, are you still studying?" my mother's voice flows through the closed door before the doorknob twists.

"Yes mom." I reply, rolling my eyes before focusing on the equation in front of me.

Different books laid sprawled out all over my desk, each of them having their own importance.

"I doubt you had lunch." she continues, pushing open the door with my laundry in a basket.

"Leave them on my bed," I say, not even bothering to look at her. "I'd sort it out later."

I felt the whoosh of air before her hand smacked the back of my head.

"Ethan Lancelot Blackwell," Here we go again. "I'm so glad you're studying. I'm so proud of you being the first in the whole school but you need to take care of yourself too."

I groan, placing my pen on my ear as I spin the chair around to face her.

"Mom," I start, pinching in-between my eyebrows as I keep my eyes on her. "I need to start preparing to apply for colleges."

"Yes I know that but—"

"And....that takes a lot of time invested in studying." I continue, interrupting her.

"Ethan, listen to Mom." Lucy sighs, walking into my room and stuffing her face with chips. "You're actually making me seem un-serious, take it down a notch you scholar."

I was starting to feel a migraine forming in front of my head because of this two.

"Okay okay fine," I surrender, spinning my chair again and shutting my textbook close. "I'm done for the day."

My mother and Lucy give each other an high-five, earning an eye roll from me.

"Where's Dad?" I ask, realizing I haven't seen him all morning.

"He had an emergency at work." Mom explains, leaning on one hip.

"On a Saturday?" Lucy voices out my thoughts, a frown settling on her face.

My mom shrugs, setting the basket in her hands down at the foot of my bed. "Oh—Lynn and Silas are visiting."

"Yes!" Lucy exclaims, making a few crumbs of chips fall on the floor. "Lynn is definitely going to bring different cosmetics for me."

"So which one of you are going to pick them up from the airport?" My mother asks, looking between Lucy and I. I didn't even get the chance to breathe before Lucy screams for my mom to pick her for the task.

My mom laughs, shaking her head as she pulls Lucy out of the room.

Finally.

I turn my attention back to my closed book, reaching for it before Lucy head pokes through my door again.
