"How did you get that injury?" My dad asks, sipping his coffee while staring at the tablet in his hands.
"I fell." I reply, opening the refrigerator to take out water.
"So the one on your waist too was by you falling?" he asks, dropping the tablet and turning his attention to me.
I avoid his eyes by grabbing my keys in the bowl keeping my back to him.
"Ethan," he calls out softly, and I turn to face him. "I've known about your races."
Shit.
His face didn't hold any emotion of maybe he's mad or anything and as much as I appreciate getting that trait from him, it pisses me off in situations like this.
"How long?" I sit in front of him, dropping my backpack on the table.
"A year now."
Shiittt.
"Why didn't you say anything?" I question him, watching how his gaze on me was unmoving.
"I'm all for enjoying your teenage years, enjoying your youth but don't do anything that'd risk your life. Your mother would be so pissed."
I go over his words. If Mom finds out, she'd be disappointed and angry. And no one, even my dad, wants her to be pissed. It's low-key scary.
"Okay dad." I reply and he nods, going back to whatever he was looking at on his tablet. "Where's mom anyway?"
I notice how the tip of his lip lifts up in a smirk before dropping almost immediately.
"She's resting."
"It's rare for her to be asleep by this time. What did she do—Ew. Dad what the fuck?" I exclaim, face bunching up in disgust when I realized what he was saying.
"What? I didn't say anything." he defends himself, throwing his head back in laughter, just in time when both my mother and Lucy stepped into the kitchen and my eyes falls on my mother immediately, searching for any sign of what I was thinking.
Gross.
"Good morning baby." my mom mutters, leaning down to kiss my dad, his shirt which she claimed as hers draped over her body.
"Good morning mi sol." he returns the kiss while Lucy gags from beside me.
"Ethan let's go to school." Lucy suggests, eyeing our parents while I stand to my feet.
"Bye kids." Mom yells behind us as we make our way to the door.
The love my parents have for each other is so beautiful and I hope that in the future, I'd find a love like that. One thing I know is that, if anything were to happen to my mom, my dad is not going to be himself, he'd follow her in an instant and vice versa.
