I slump on the bench, using my glasses to push my hair out of my face before grabbing one of the bottled water in a crate.

"That was so intense." Kai sits down beside me, pulling his soccer boots off.

I nod in response, eyes on the field. The coach literally wants us dead.

Kai phone starts ringing and when he checks the caller ID, he drops the phone back in his bag.

"Who was that?" I ask, drinking the water and wiping the drops that escaped my lips.

"Dad."

Oh.

"He's calling for the usual reason?" I ask cautiously and he just nods, a frown on his lips.

"Well...fuck him." I say loudly and he just chuckles, kicking a stone away with his bare feet.

"You know..." I continue, resting my palms behind me on the bench with my eyes on the fine lines on the sky. "you have us. Lucy and I would always be with you. No matter what. You're literally stuck with us."

Kai laughs, copying my stance. "That's literally one of the nicest thing you've ever said to me."

"If you put it like that, you mean I'm not naturally sweet."

"No you're not."

"Right." I agree with a small smile.

That's the one thing about me. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing but I've chosen to live with it. Live with the fact that I don't trust strangers. Me always having my guard up for people I don't know makes it hard to make friends or even have a girlfriend.

If I wanted to have one, I would, but I just don't. That's why every girl I stay with, know that it's just for sex. I make sure to tell them beforehand, so when they give me their love bullshit, I'd turn them down.

I turn my gaze to Kai who was staring at where the cheerleaders were practicing, his eyes trained particularly on a certain blonde. She seemed to catch our eyes because she was already walking towards us, her ponytail swinging with her every step.

"Hey boys."

Her soft voice flows through the air as she sits beside Kai. I notice how the tips of his ears were red.

Downbad.

"Hey Channel," he responds, wiping his palms on his shorts. "What's up?"

"I'm okay, how are you Ethan?"

"Aside from the fact that my feet hurts so bad," I sigh. "I'm okay."

She laughs, "Couch is really torturing you all right?"

"Yeah."

I shift my gaze from her, easing and feeling at peace in the late afternoon.

Channel isn't like every other girls who cling to me at every chance they get, or try to get my attention by trying to be sexual. Sure, even if she's mean to other people, I've seen her at her worst and it's just her coping mechanism.
