                          SIX WEEKS AGO.

"I'm desperate for a glass of wine."

Kingsley Delaware hated making appearances━━ Most of all, she hated the country club benefits.

The Delaware's good name was Margaret and Archer's top priority. Their children nothing but pawns in their game of success━━ Not that they needed any more money, the couple was just notoriously greedy. Kingsley was the queen, the piece on a chess board, to reach their checkmate.

They had to upstage the rest━━ Simply being filthy rich, wasn't enough.

Kingsley never had a reason to dislike the outings, if you discount her puppet performances for society, and the easy accessibility to endless amounts of wine made up for it. It was simply a distaste. For the Kook Princess would rather be drinking or smoking, in a far more comfortable environment.

Without the watching eyes of the many.

Still, Kingsley didn't despise the gala's. For, she enjoyed the life she lived, being given anything she could possibly imagine at the snap of her fingertips. Many weren't so lucky and that was horrible for them, not that Kingsley cared much for that select few.

Maybe it was the fact her brother, Kingston, watched her from the crowd or that her ex-boyfriend hunted her down━━ Hoping for the his chance to get under her skin, he loved to get her worked up. Rafe and Kingston battled against the other to grind her gears, a rather unusual competition.

Kingsley hated the sound of his voice, even the smallest mention of the Cameron boy's name made her want to tear at her flesh.

The Kooks were nosy. They wanted to know everything about everybody, the tale as old as time. A collection of rich snobs who had nothing better to do with their lives━━ Which, Kingsley was hypocritical. For, she enjoyed the lifestyle and all of its flaws. Just not when it was aimed at her.

Kingsley's reputation was a story, a fairytale. Margaret and Archer were the authors of the fable, Kingsley's life wasn't her own and never would be. So, all her own secrets could remain her own, tucked away in the darkest corners of her mind. Perhaps she preferred it that way, it was something to call her own, but was it better sealed away?

She bottled things up and coincidentally, found comfort in a bottle.

"Really, Kings?" An all too familiar voice stole her attention, she could practically hear the smug grin on his face, "That's what? Your fourth glass of wine?"

Kingsley groaned in frustration, tipping her head back.

Rafe Cameron would always find her. Their relationship had fallen apart, piece by piece over the last few months until they had finally called it quits. He suffocated her and Kingsley took pride in her independence. For, she was awarded a minuscule amount.

"I beg you━━ Go away." She muttered. Her fingertip tapped against the body of the wine glass.

"You look lovely tonight, Kings."

Kingsley groaned, again. His voice felt like nails on a chalkboard, a piercing in her temples. She gripped her glass and shot her head back, finishing the last of it. Standing up, she abandoned both him and the glass━━ Gracefully, picking up another.

Seconds later, that very glass was empty.

All Kingsley ever needed was the comfort she sought at the bottom of the glass. The girl faded into the background, or at least attempted to. Kingsley would never be able to disappear, sometimes she wished to be a ghost━━ On account of Casper being her favourite childhood movie. To be able to fade away, be alone long enough to feel true tranquility.

But being Kook Royalty, having the leisure's that the Delaware name provided, meant paying the price━━ Mind the irony.

"That piece of shit again?" Oh but there was a positive to the lonely life of Kook Royalty. There was Layla Myers, "Breaking up wasn't a big enough hint?"

"Tell me about it." Kingsley chuckled, she laced her arm with Layla's.

"I think I need to catch up." Layla teased. Her eyes flicked to the numerous empty glasses.

        "Ha Ha."

        "Your mother wants you."

Kingsley glanced up, her hand squeezed harshly around the glass in her hand. Margaret Delaware motioned over to her, calling the girl to her performance.

This was the price━━ To stand behind her parents, by her brothers side and smile. The Delaware's appeared as the picture perfect family, the dictionary meaning of the white picket fence American dream. Everyone wanted their lives, the version of their lives they handed out, covered in white linen lies. Kingsley had a drinking problem, self medicating her underlying sadness with a alcohol and that wasn't the darkest of tales to be told of the Delaware estate.

But there they were, dressed to the nines with mocking smiles on their faces.

"Thank you all for coming! Enjoy the rest of your evening and don't be shy, if you need anything━━ Anything at all, my lovely children are more than happy to oblige."

The smile on Kingsley and Kingston's faces immediately dropped as they stepped off the platform. Kingsley's heeled foot crashed against the marble flooring as she raced to grab another drink, colliding with another.

       "Watch where you're going, Cameron."

Layla Myers giggled as Kingsley ran over.

The aftermath of Kingsley's breakup with the Cameron boy had resulted in numerous repercussions, Sarah Cameron was no longer a friend of Kingsley Delaware's.

They considered the girl to be selfish━━ Another example of hypocrisy from the Kook Princess.

"Poor Topper." Kingsley tutted, "She'll cheat on him eventually."
