We were padding through the soft ferns as Sparki stopped.
"Mooooom!!!" she yowled. "Wish bit me!"
I looked at her. I saw a smug grin on her face, so I kept walking. I knew this was one of her tricks. She sighed and rolled her eyes and kept on.
"She didn't bite Sparki." I heard Cream whisper to Starfall.
Starfall agreed.
"Here we are, children," I told them. "This is the place we will cross to the Snowflake."
A leaf fell and hit my head. I showed my cubs a funny face. They giggled to themselves. All except Sparki. I smiled at her, and we crossed to the Snowflake. They way to the Snowflake was blocked by a river, but there was a fallen tree that crossed over the river. My family lived in a different territory, but I moved here. I knew the Snowflake had wolves, but I knew how to get away. It also had the juiciest caribou in the winter, and the tastiest deer in the summer. It had lots of rabbits too. I told my self to not panic if we get attacked. Just follow my gut. It seemed like as soon as we came to the Forest Territory, we left.
We had made it to the Snowflake just in time for winter. As I trod into a clearing, a new, warm, spicy smell flooded my senses.
"Caribou!" I yelped.
My cubs looked at me with a confused look on their face. I blushed and we kept on. "Where's the caribou, Mom?" Starfall asked. She pounced on Cream as she said this.
"You're a caribou," she said to Cream. "And I'm gonna eat you!"
Cream squealed in delight as she and Starfall tumbled across the white, fluffy, snow. I laughed, and so did Wish. As Sparki joined the pile, Wish just watched in silence except for a giggle here and there.
"Aren't you the odd one out?" I lovingly told her.
She giggled in delight as she looked back to her roly-poly sisters. I could tell she loved that nick-name. I had found a small cave for my cubs to hide in.
"I'll catch you girls some caribou. Stay here."
They nodded as I padded off. The scent of spices grew and grew as I stalked closer. Crack! went a stick. One of the caribou groaned and they all ran. I ran and ran, just like I did when I was being chased by wolves. I got so close, and I finally pounced. I locked my jaws into its neck. My fangs sunk into its soft flesh. It tasted like rich, spicy, peppery goodness. As I pinned the caribou to the ground, I heard a crack, and it fell limp. I dragged it back to my girls. They gasped as they saw the caribou carcass.
"W-Wow...." Wish trailed off.
All my cubs looked at her.
"You, you talked!!" Starfall squealed.
Wish blushed and took a bite of caribou. Her eyes lit up, and she wolfed more down.
"Save some for us!" Cream mewed.
It soon was gone. I picked up the hard caribou skull and placed it in a little brown sack my mother had found when I was a cub.
"You guys still hungry?" I asked them.
"I am!" said Sparki.
"Ok!" I caught her a rabbit, and that was gone in seconds, only by Sparki.
"Wow, Sparki, you must have been really hungry, even after that caribou!" I mewed playfully.
After we chatted and played a bit, we padded off into the snowy silence of the Snowflake.
An eerie howl stopped us in our tracks.
