I changed into an orange t-shirt from my bag, brushed my tangled hair, and put on a little lipgloss that I still had in my pocket. I walked out of the cabin and down the path towards where I thought I remembered the dining pavilion was.
With my luck I was of course going the wrong way.
"Need some help?" a boy's voice called from behind me.
I turned around to face a tall blonde boy. Honestly, my first thought was 'damn, he's pretty hot'. He had a scar down the right side of his face, giving him a rugged warrior look. I felt my face turn red.
"Yeah, actually, it's my first day. I need to get to the dining pavilion."
"It's cool, everyone gets lost their first couple days at camp, you'll get used to it. Just walk with me, I'm heading there now." he told me.
"We gotta hurry though because we're already pretty late."As we walked we had a short conversation.
He told me his name was Luke and that he was the head counselor for the Hermes cabin. I told him I was in Athena cabin. It seemed to spark his interest which made me feel pretty good, not gonna lie."Alright we're here. I'm guessing Annabeth has already told you most of what you need to know." he said assumedly.
"Yeah, she did. Thank you." I said, half smiling.
"Don't mention it. If you need anything you can always ask me."
I might've just been delusional, but Luke seemed genuinely interested in talking to me. He also gave off subtle pedophile vibes, but I decided to ignore that because he was hot.
I walked toward the plates and grabbed one along with some silverware. I went to go find the line for food but there was no line. I frowned looking around at the other campers who already had full plates. I hadn't even realized how hungry I was until that moment.
I thought of the filet my family chef made with corn and mashed potatoes. My dad was probably eating his delicious food right now.
Suddenly my plate felt heavier and I looked down. An eight ounce steak was on my plate with corn and mashed potatoes beside it. I then remembered the welcome video that I was forced to watch. It mentioned something about how the magic knew exactly what you wanted to eat.
Now that I had my plate of food I walked to the line waiting to make an offering for my mom, Athena, like Annabeth had told me about. Not that I was too fond of sacrificing my own dinner for my mom who didn't even stick around.
'Do gods even have to eat?' I wondered.
The line was moving very slowly, I guessed everyone had a lot to pray for. It was almost my turn, the boy in front of me walked up to the pit but he didn't scrape anything in.
"Hurry up, kid!" a mean sounding camper shouted, a few back in the line.
The boy turned around and faced me. He had messy raven hair and light sea green eyes, the prettiest eyes I'd ever seen.
He stared at me as if waiting for an answer.
"Sorry, what?" I asked.
I must've zoned out or something.
"You can go in front of me." he repeated."Oh, right." I said, turning a little red at my stupid response.
I dumped some of my corn and mashed potatoes into the fire and whispered:
"Athena- er, mom, help me find my place here. Please."
I was quiet enough so that even the boy next to me couldn't hear.
