𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃, knocking firmly on the door of the apartment. She waited a moment, listening to the sound of footsteps approaching from the other side. As the footsteps grew louder, she straightened her posture, preparing herself. The door swung open, revealing a guy who looked to be about her age. "Hey," he said, his eyebrows furrowing as he took in the sight of Evan standing there.

"Hey, I'm Evan," she introduced herself confidently, holding out her hand for a handshake.

"Oh!" The guy seemed to snap out of his confusion and quickly extended his hand as well, shaking hers firmly before they both let go. "Right, sorry. When you emailed and I saw the name Evan-"

"Let me guess, you thought I was a dude?" Evan guessed with a knowing smile, making the guy nod shyly. "It's cool if you don't want a female roommate-"

"No! No. It's fine," the guy quickly interjected, chuckling nervously. "I'm Sam, by the way."

"Yeah, I kinda figured," Evan responded with a nod, making Sam let out a more relaxed chuckle. "So... you gonna show me the apartment or...?"

"Oh, right," Sam said, suddenly remembering his manners. He opened the door wider and stepped aside. "Come on in."

"Thanks," Evan replied, sending Sam a small smile before stepping into the apartment. She looked around, taking in the space that could potentially be her new home. The living room was cozy, with a worn but comfortable-looking couch and a coffee table cluttered with books and magazines. The kitchen, visible from where she stood, was small but appeared functional.

"So, this is the living room," Sam began, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. "The kitchen's over there, and the bedrooms are down the hall. Yours would be the one on the left."

"Great," Evan said, nodding appreciatively. "It looks nice. You mind if I just look around?."

"No problem," Sam replied, a friendly smile finally breaking across his face. "Go for it."

"So, what do you think?" Sam questioned as they exited the apartment, standing just outside the door.

"I think you should get the lease agreement so I can sign it," Evan responded with a warm smile, making Sam let out a sigh of relief.

"I'll make sure to let you know when I have it," Sam nodded, returning the smile with a sense of accomplishment.

"Also, how do you feel about parties?" Evan questioned, making Sam shrug slightly. "Delta Delta Delta is throwing a beginning-of-the-year party and I really don't want to go alone," Evan confessed, her voice tinged with a hint of nervousness. Sam let out a soft laugh at the sudden shift in conversation. "Please come with me? I don't want to be the only freshman there," she added, her eyes pleading.

"You're a freshman?" Sam asked, shock evident in his voice as he looked Evan up and down, trying to reconcile her mature demeanor with her revelation.

"Yeah?" Evan chuckled awkwardly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Sorry," Sam shook his head, snapping out of his daze. "I just thought you were a junior or something."

"Yeah, I get that a lot," Evan nodded, understandingly. "It's nice when I want to get into bars and stuff, but it's not fun when I get the creepy seniors hitting on me. But anyways, can I get your number?" she asked, taking out her phone.

"Yeah, sure," Sam nodded, watching as Evan pulled out her phone. "I like the rhinestones," Sam smiled, admiring the Nokia that had purple rhinestones superglued onto it, giving it a unique and personal touch.

"Thanks," Evan chuckled as Sam put in his number. "I'll see you tonight?" she questioned as she placed her phone back in her pocket and began slowly walking backward, her steps hesitant.

"Yeah, for sure," Sam nodded confidently. "Just text me the details and I'll meet you there."

"Great," Evan smiled, her face lighting up with excitement. "See you later, Sam!"

"See you later, Evan!" Sam called out, watching as she disappeared around the corner, feeling a sense of anticipation for the evening ahead.
