"Where is the princess?", the Emperor asked calmly, wiping off his sword which had already tasted the blood of many.
"Why would I tell you?" Jyoti stepped back, looking at the corpses of the guards who tried to protect her.
The Emperor smirked at the pathetic woman in front of him.
"I'm the Emperor -"
"In your dreams!" Jyoti shrieked and froze as she hit the walls behind. She was left with no way to escape. The enemies' soldiers had surrounded her from the sides and she was blocked by the empire's traitor. It was for sure that the newly acclaimed ruler would never kill her for she had the princess's secret safe with her. The princess was indeed, precious for the kingdom. For a moment she closed her eyes and took deep breaths, imagining the reign of the previous Emperor.
"Remember...you are a woman..." The devil chuckled eyeing her lecherously. The other guards' abominable laughter would freeze anyone's blood. Yet, Jyoti remained still, calm and composed.
"It would be fun to torture you....without killing you," He smirked.
Jyoti let out a small, victory laugh. She knew she was not going to survive. The Empire in which she had lived for many years was crushed to pieces, and the betrayers would take the credit for it. The only thing that remained, was the princess.
"The princess-" Jyoti muttered gaining the devil's attention.
"I'm listening-" he said, signaling the guards to ease their positions.
"The princess-" she continued, and looked at the setting sun.
"is...dead..." she mumbled, tired.
"What? No way, you are lying! I saw her with my own eyes!" the Emperor angrily slapped Jyoti, and pulled her by her hair.
"You better not lie-"
"She was beheaded by one of your soldiers, and I was the one who cremated her..." Jyoti talked under her breath.
"Your audacity to lie -"
"Our princess died a glorious death, protecting her people..." Jyoti looked into his eyes
"She isn't someone who would runaway to protect herself..." she continued, looking at the dark sky, that had already engulfed the sun within it.
Before the traitor could comprehend Jyoti's words, Jyoti pulled a sword from the guard next to her,
"Har Har Mahadev!" she shouted and slit her throat, knowing that their Empire would rise back. The Emperor looked at Jyoti's struggling body, however, the smile in her face went unnoticed due to the darkness that had surrounded the place.
It was a smile of victory, for she knew, the princess was safe, and the traitors would never go back in search of her. The princess's secret, was buried along with Jyoti, because only Jyoti knew, that the princess, was alive.
Princess Mithravinda.
