Unrest in Rechnung grew and grew as Terran occupation worsened. Many nations were made in the downfall of Rechnung and Porchan, some of which Human-Allied. The civil unrest eventually grew into full blown rebellion as people took up arms against the Imperium.
~2 Years Later.~
"Dear Maria,
I hope this letter finds you and the boys well. This have came to a stalemate after the first push stalled. We are in a constant tug of war with the enemy, not to mention our lack of supplies. I do not know why the Humans hide in their trenches as they seem perfectly fed and healthy. Some of the men have resorted to sneaking over the top at night to find scraps of food tainted by mud and blood. The lush forest that we once occupied is now a barren wasteland with the constant drum of artillery, though it seems to be lifting..?"
I put my pen down and grabbed my gun, standing at attention as the general walked down the line. "Listen here and listen carefully. At 0700 we will be going over the top to take the Terran trench, I want no hesitation or I will shoot you myself. You enlisted to free Rechnung from the shackles of occupation, so free it you must. God speed gentlemen." The general began walking away. I lifted my hand to stare at my watch, informing my comrades that it was 06:50. I walked over to the ladder and placed my hands on it, the artillery barrage beginning up again. I waited for the fateful whistle. A few minutes passed but it seemed more like years until the unholy sound began from the general. I slammed by foot on the ladder and pushed myself off, charged with my bayonet infornt of my barrel. Bullets whizzed by as I dived headfirst into a crater, men fell all around me as their faces, lifeless and cold, fell next to me. I pushed myself off the mud and made up the courage to charge out of the hole, only to find a stinging pain in my chest. Looking down a dark red liquid surrounded a hole in my jacket and I could feel myself blacking out, collapsing to the ground. I begged for my mother as I laid in the mud and guts, the sounds of war all around me as I felt the stinging come to an end and my vision darken. My last thoughts were of her.
~100,000 men were killed in the first month of the Second Diodes War, many in the Battle of Corinthian Valley. For the first few months Terra attempted to break Rechnung lines in the Corinthian Valley, a valley surrounded the vital urban sector of Corinthian City. This battle lasted from the second week of the war until the last month of the war, 7 years later.
"Oi, think we can go home here in a bit?" My friend said next to me, his face resting on the machine gun next to him. "Maybe, depends on what happens today." I replied, wanting to sound hopeful. He stood up and grabbed my shoulders. "We stay together, no matter what, got it?" He looked at me dead in the eyes, slightly scaring me. "Of course, Tyra." I said back to him as he smiled. "Good." He walked back to his chair and looked out of the slit cut in the concrete, barely big enough to fight a machine gun into. "Holy shit." He said with wide eyes as I scrambled over to him to see. Around 300 tanks came over the valley, not to mention around 20 battalion of Terran Infantry. The cammander then bursted into the room. " Set the machine gun up, Terran troops are engaging with the Trench Divisions!" He ordered before running out of the room. "Understood sir!" I took one last look outside and artillery hit the ground, the trench divisions continued to shoot at the Terran's, but to no avail. Then the first shell hit the base. The concrete structure of bunkers shook, thankfully the concrete was made thick enough that the shell didn't penetrate the roof. Tyra handed me a magazine as I slammed it into the gun, placing the butt of the rifle on my shoulder and wrapping my hands around the wood handle. I pulled the trigger and the jolt sent me back. "Let me handle the gun." Tyra said to me, grabbing the gun. I stepped back and grabbed the sniper sitting next to us. Over the course of three hours we repelled Terran troops who had captured the trenches outside Vladivo Fortress. I was a recruit in the Zorvan Expeditionary Army who was sent to Rechnung to repel Terra while Zorvan prepared for war. Tyra was a veteran that I met a day after getting to the fortress and we immediately got along, despite our ten year age gap. "Get me another mag Forza!" Tyra yelled at me as I ran to the back to grab a machine gun before being thrown back by an artillery shell hitting the room next to us . "Shit! Hang in there Forza!" He yelled as he emptied the mag. He grabbed the gun and picked me up. Running out into the hallway he looked both ways before running to the hall on the left. The halls were always like a maze. I could the back of my head getting wet so using the last of strength I took my hand and reached to the back of my head. Pulling my hand back with a jolt of pain my hand was bathed in a dark red liquid. "Damn it... Forza hold on, we're almost to the Medbay!" He yelled after seeing my hand. Another shell hit the fortress and he stumbled before continuing on, reaching the medbay. "Doctor, please!" He yelled as he pointed at me but the medic just shook his head. "We are full, I'm sorry." He said to Tyra before walking away to tend to another injured soldier. Tyra placed me on a cot before sitting next to me. The general ran past and looked at Tyra. "Are you injured?" "No." "Then get your ass to the front." The general stated before running off drawing his pistol. Tyra grabbed his gun and started walking away. I could feel my vision going black and I felt like I could finally get some sleep in these hard ass cots.
~1 million troops would die in the Siege of Vladivo Fortress as the fortress stood in the way of Terras charge to capture a city on the border. The war was bloody for both Humans and Hildani, the war killing between 17-20, million.
