The morning sun filtered through the stained glass windows of Diluc's office room, casting a warm glow on the polished wooden desk. Diluc sat there, his expression a mix of frustration and determination. The thief who had once again managed to escape like smoke still haunted his thoughts. How had the man vanished yet again?
At least this time, they had something on their possession, the thief's coat. It lay draped over the back of a wooden chair, a deep purple fabric. Diluc's fingers traced the seams, the texture rough against his skin. His brother, Kaeya, leaned against the doorframe, one eyebrow raised. "Another escape?" Kaeya's voice held a hint of amusement. Diluc scowled ''Do not start Kaeya, this is not the right time..." Kaeya chuckled. ''Someone seems very upset... Would you like to tell me what happened last night Diluc?" Diluc recounted all the events of the previous night with full detail, the chase, the arrow, the blood-stained cobblestones. Kaeya listened intently, his one visible eye narrowing slightly.
Despite their differences and the complex history between them, Kaeya respected Diluc's dedication to protecting Mondstadt. " He's clever," Kaeya mused. "But not invincible. You said you found something, right?" Kaeya interjected, his curiosity piqued. Diluc nodded, "Yes, he left behind this coat." "This coat could be more useful than you think, Diluc," Kaeya mused. "Alright, what do you suggest we do?" Diluc asked, his tone more measured now, the initial frustration giving way to a steely resolve. Kaeya's eye sparkled with mischief as he proposed a daring plan to Diluc."Diluc," he said, "Why not use the thief's coat as bait? He'll return for it, no doubt." Kaeya suggested, leaning forward with a confident grin. Diluc scowled, skepticism evident in his eyes as his fingers were tracing the rough fabric of the purple coat.
"That's nonsense, Kaeya." he replied. "He won't fall for such an obvious trap. He won't risk returning for something as insignificant as his coat." Diluc retorted, his tone dismissive. However, Kaeya, with his usual charm and persuasive flair, persisted. "Think about it, Diluc. The thief values that coat for sure, This coat is finely made! Take a look at the gems that it has on, it is a pretty expensive coat. He'll risk everything to reclaim it for sure. Probably it might be important to him. It's our best chance what else do we have to lose?" Diluc sighed. "Kaeya, your idea will not work... it will become a new failure." Kaeya's smiled. "How you know that when you haven't tried it?''
Diluc sighed, weighing the suggestion. Despite his reservations, he knew Kaeya had a knack for strategy, often thinking outside the box in ways that Diluc found both infuriating and ingenious. "Alright," Diluc conceded reluctantly, rubbing his temples. "We'll use the coat as bait, but we need to be meticulous. Any mistake, and he'll slip through our fingers again." Kaeya's grin widened as he clapped his brother on the shoulder. "Trust me, Diluc. Tonight, we'll end this chase." Diluc's eyes met Kaeya's, a silent agreement passing between them. Despite their conflicting methods and ideologies, they both knew the importance of this mission. The thief had been terrorizing Mondstadt for weeks, and his audacity to continuously evade capture was a personal affront to Diluc's sense of justice.
As night fell over Mondstadt, a heavy anticipation settled upon the city. Inside the grand cathedral, a meticulously orchestrated trap was set in motion. Diluc and Kaeya had strategically placed the thief's distinctive purple coat on a pew near the altar, its rich color stark against the dimly lit interior. The cathedral, chosen for its limited space and exits, offered a higher probability of capturing the elusive criminal. Hidden behind pillars and in the shadows, the knights of Favonius were positioned strategically, their keen eyes scanning the surroundings. Some knights patrolled the aisles, pretending to go about their usual duties, adding to the illusion of normalcy.
Diluc and Kaeya, the masterminds behind this operation, remained concealed in the shadows, their gazes fixed on the entrance. The cathedral's vast, echoing silence amplified their tense anticipation. Diluc's grip on his claymore was firm, his muscles coiled and ready to spring into action. Beside him, Kaeya leaned casually against a pillar, his relaxed posture a stark contrast to the intensity in his eyes. They waited, the minutes stretching into what felt like hours.
Diluc and Kaeya were starting to lose hope. Hours had passed, and the silence in the cathedral was becoming oppressive. The trap seemed to have failed, and the elusive thief appeared to have outwitted them once again. Diluc sighed deeply, frustration and exhaustion weighing heavily on him. As he glanced upward in a moment of resignation, his sharp eyes caught a flicker of movement on the roof. There, barely visible in the dim light filtering through the stained-glass windows, was the thief. Diluc's heart quickened as he signed urgently to Kaeya, directing his gaze to the rooftop. Kaeya's eye widened in realization, and the two brothers prepared themselves for what was to come.
The thief, dressed in dark, nondescript clothing that blended into the shadows, moved with a practiced stealth. He carefully opened one of the high windows, ensuring it made no noise. His eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the cathedral below. Satisfied that the coast was clear, he slipped through the window and landed silently on his feet, as nimble as a cat. He moved towards his coat with confident strides, unaware of the watchful eyes tracking his every move. Just as his fingers brushed the purple fabric, Diluc's voice rang out, breaking the stillness. "Now! Attack!" The cathedral erupted into action. Knights sprang from their hiding places, nets and weapons at the ready. The thief's eyes widened in shock, but it was too late. A flurry of nets descended upon him, entangling his limbs and rendering him immobile. He did not struggle. He sank to his knees, ensnared and surrounded.
Diluc and Kaeya approached the captured thief, their expressions a mixture of relief and disbelief. For so long, this thief had been a ghost, an untouchable specter that haunted Mondstadt. Now, he was finally within their grasp. As they drew closer, the thief lifted his head, revealing his striking appearance. Silver hair framed a face with sharp features, and his piercing cold blue eyes met Diluc's gaze once again. Diluc's breath caught in his throat. He had imagined this moment countless times, but the reality of it was almost surreal. The thief, who had been a thorn in Mondstadt's side for so long, was not only captured but also revealed to be a figure of unexpected elegance and poise. "So, you're the one who's been causing all this trouble," Diluc said, his voice steady but filled with a mixture of anger and curiosity. The thief didn't respond, his eyes flicking between Diluc and Kaeya, gauging their reactions. Kaeya smirked, his usual confidence returning. "It's over now. You won't be slipping through our fingers again."
Diluc clenched his fists. "Your crimes end here. You'll remain captive until we decide your fate. Justice demands it. Take him to his cell!" Once Diluc gave the command for the knights of Favonius to escort the thief to his cell, the criminal complied without resistance. As they led him away, the thief cast a final glance at Diluc, his piercing blue eyes locking onto his. A shiver ran down Diluc's spine as an unsettling mix of anger, curiosity, and something he couldn't quite place. The intensity of that gaze left him feeling strangely off-balance, as if the thief had glimpsed secrets hidden deep within him. Justice would prevail... but those eyes haunted him long after the thief was taken away to his cell.
