When Siobhan opened the front door, a part of her hoped Vivian would be standing there.
She had been cut off from the outside world for days and didn't know what had happened to her.
Roger didn't tell her.
She could be alive, she could be dead. Siobhan didn't know.
Her fear that the woman who had shown her so much kindness might no longer be among the living. Was confirmed in her mind as she looked the sergeant from the City of London Police in the eye.
Siobhan knew the man. Richard Miller, head of the local police station and friend of Roger.
"Hello Siobhan, is Roger there?"
She just nodded and called for him.
Roger came to the door immediately.
" Hello Richard, long time no see. What brings you to me. ", Roger spoke. He put his hand on Siobhan's lower back.
" Oh, just a little something. Where were you between five and six on Monday night?"
Roger smiled slightly. "Here. Siobhan can confirm that."
She felt his hand press more firmly against her back. "Yes, he was with me the whole evening."
Miller wrote this down on his notepad.
" I thought so. Sorry to disturb you Rog."Siobhan couldn't help it, she had to know if Vivian was still alive.
"May I ask why?"Roger immediately tightened his grip.
" A nurse, Vivian Jones, was attacked outside the hospital on Monday. And one of her colleagues has voiced Roger as a suspect. Completely out of the blue, if you ask me. The woman has no connection to you. Except that her son goes to your Nursery."
"That's terrible," Roger's feigned sympathy immediately made Siobhan angry. "I hope they catch whoever is responsible. Taking the life of such an important member of our community should be severely punished."
Miller immediately continued. " Oh don't worry she's alive."
A stone fell from Siobhan's heart. She is alive, Vivian was still alive.
"Really?" This time the mask almost fell from Roger's face.
"Yes, but questioning is not possible at the moment. The victim is still unresponsive."
Siobhan played nervously with her hands. She should just hold back and say nothing more, but she needed to know. She was happy to accept the beating that would follow.
"Is she going to be all right?"Miller looked sceptical. "That's confidential information." But then he smiled slightly. "But I've known you for so long, just don't tell anyone. The doctors don't know yet. I spoke to a doctor earlier, beautiful young thing. " a shiver ran down Siobhan's spine." She said the victim has a brain haemorrhage and is in a coma until further notice. I'm not surprised, the attacker hit her head-on in the face and the floor of the car park was made of concrete. It is not yet clear if and when she will may wake up again. " Miller scratches his head briefly. " But if you ask me, it makes no difference if she wakes up. She's bound to be a vegetable after a blow like that."
"Let's just hope she gets better soon," said Roger.
Miller nodded. "Alright, I won't keep you any longer. Have a nice day."
As the front door closed. Roger immediately grabbed Siobhan's neck. "What was that all about! You shouldn't care whether that bitch lives or dies! You'll never see her again!"
One hour. Siobhan had an hour and form Roger to drop the papers off at the Nursery.
He let her out of the house again. Her ribs were still aching from his blows.
Siobhan entered the office, where Marjorie and Autumn were waiting for her.
They only looked up briefly. Marjorie rolled her eyes immediately, Autumn just got on with her work and ignored the blonde.
Siobhan put the documents on Marjorie's desk without saying a word.
She was about to leave when Marjorie finally said something to her.
"I tried to contact you yesterday! You're in the head department, so answer your phone."
" It's broken..." Siobhan just whispered.
"And no new one yet? Are you running out of money?" Autumn asked sarcastically without looking up.
Siobhan turned around, anger burning in her eyes. "You have no idea how I feel, what I'm going through! So save your comments!"
Marjorie raised her hands.
Autumn, on the other hand, saw this as a challenge to get even further under Siobhan's skin. "Oh, is the hot tub broken?"
The blonde was about to say something else when the office door opened.
Charlotte leant into the room. " Erm sorry. But there's a man here who wants to dropp of something."
Sergeant Miller entered the room. "Hello, I'll bring the file back. Oh, hello again Siobhan.
He placed a file on the desk. It was the file on Jamie Jones.
"You know each other?" asked Marjorie.
"Only briefly," said Miller.
Autumm was not good at expressing her feelings herself. She was known for her serious look and cold personality. But one thing she could do well was see through other people. And at that very moment, she saw something in Siobhan.
She knew something.
Marjorie picked up the file. " A tragedy....... who would do such a thing?"
" I don't know. Siobhan, do you have any ideas?" Autumn asked, her piercing gaze fixed on the blonde.
Siobhan looked like a deer in headlights. Her whole body tensed.
'Tell the truth! You owe it to Viv!' The voice screamed in her head.
Siobhan's heart was racing. She couldn't say anything. Who would believe her? No one would.
But did she want to carry this guilt around with her her whole life? It was her fault.
Miller looked at her. "I think we've already discussed everything." He made his way out of the office.
Siobhan closed her eyes for a moment. She couldn't be a coward now.
"It was Roger."
