"Dude, one day, we're literally gonna be famous and you're gonna regret saying all this shit to me."
Iris couldn't help but recall Krist's words to her when they were just messing around one day. She'd been teasing him for his height. The joke always stuck with her, she never quite knew why, but now she figured the universe must've been telling her something, because there he was playing bass on her TV.
Of course, that was the second thing she noticed, the first being Kurt at the microphone, something she never would've expected him to be famous for . Not to say he wasn't talented, but Kurt only sang in front of her once or twice. Love Buzz, that was the one he always sang around her. It had always been of his favorites.
She sat in front of the TV with her jaw on the floor, having to sit down to keep herself from falling. Their music video was on MTV.
She had no words. She'd have to give them a call later, was all she could think.
All of a sudden another thought enveloped her mind; why did she move away? Oh yeah, college. Stupid college. She hated it. She hated marketing, she hated real estate, she hated everything about it.
Iris grew up extremely poor, on her mom's side, that is. She lived with her mother, her father choosing more luxurious ways of life with his own money from real estate. He shared none of it with either of them, her mother worked three jobs for most of her life.
Iris was never interested in her father's line of work, she wanted to be a musician. She always wanted to be a musician, since she heard her first Beatles record she was completely enamored. She learned how to play guitar, along with a little bit of drums.
The only thing her father ever provided for Iris was when she moved away from Seattle. Iris's mother had been saving for her to go to college since she was born, and she'd been putting her own money away by the time she turned fifteen.
Due to all of this, her worst fear was not being able to provide for herself. Of course, at times she thought maybe this fear was slightly irrational, but it's caused her many regrets through the years. She sometimes felt as if she'd sacrificed a much happier life by striving for the things her parents told her to. Though, she knew they were right.
But right now, looking at the TV, a pit grew in her stomach. She recalled Kurt begging her to join his new band for days on end with no sign of stopping, until she finally told him she was going to college in California. His entire face dropped with disappointment. The look on his face would be stuck in her head forever, along with the guilt of watching his entire vision fall to pieces.
That feeling in her stomach only grew the more she thought about it until she finally had to turn off the television, deciding she would call Kurt and congratulate him later. This was incredible for the band, she was proud, but she was envious. She gave up on a chance to live her dream out of fear. It wasn't something she wanted to happen again.
