Monty's scheduled leave from work is today. At least he is flying into town today. I intentionally did not mention to him that I had my last appointment today and it would be decided whether I get admitted or released for a few more days. He is a brilliant man, though. He must have counted the days and took the leave after a proper calculation.
I push the thoughts to the back of my mind and continue with my preparations. Mercy will be here any time soon. I sit on my bed, calculating just how many more breaths and steps I need to take before fainting. My body is too heavy, I can't take this. I need help. Mrs. Horness has been staying over more often, to take care of me. Before I open my mouth to utter a word, she walks into my room and smiles.
"Miss, you must be tired. I'll help you here." She utters, politely, taking the bag I placed at my feet.
"You can move closer to the door. I will bring the bags to you once I am done." She adds.
"Okay then, that's my cue."
I say, jokingly as I pull myself off the bed and walk steadily toward to living room. Before I can get to my anticipated destination, I hear honking of a car and register instantly that that must be Mercy. Before a second step, there is a knock on the door.
"She a vampire?" I voice out my thoughts. That was too fast. There is no way she got to the door that fast.
Meg. That must be Meg. She came. Yay. I think, happily. This makes me want to reach the door faster.
I open the door and instantly can feel blood rushing to my face. The shock on my face isn't concealable.
"Monty?" I say, questioningly. "You were supposed to land at noon, no?"
"I may have lied." He says, smiling mockingly. His eyes dancing on me pleasurably. He is forever a charmer. "Wasn't gonna miss my god-daughter's check-up. Or is it a god-son?"
"Yeah, sure." Say, all smiles. He is another connection I have with Mick. I remove my gaze from him and look past him to Mercy who is leaning of her car, feeling content with what she did. At the same time, Monty steps past me and walks inside towards Mrs. Horness who's holding two bags, walking towards the door.
"Allow me to take it from here." He utters politely, going for the bags.
"Good luck Cecilia." Mrs. Horness says before I step out of the house. I smile at her and leave.
Still smiling ear to ear, I get ready to get into the car as Monty opens to door. I stop on my trucks as the sight of him comes into view. The smile instantly turns into an ugly expression. I can feel Monty's eyes on me questioningly. Mercy picks on the current situation and steps forward.
"um, new arrangement. Martin sit at the front and Monty, you take his place at the back." She says meaningfully, gesturing for Martin to step out.
To think that I was happy about the company I would have. Had to experience the cursed encounter.
Martin was among the first of Mick's friends I knew, and we instantly became friends. It is not fair that he knew Mick was in Special Forces and didn't tell me. In fact, he introduced Mick to it, and they both, together, decided the information wasn't worth sharing, with me.
I look at Mercy and slightly nod. She understands and nods right back.
"That is quite the save." I say, internally. I cannot deal with him today.
That however doesn't kill the questioning looks Monty throws my and Mercy's way. What started with smiles turns into awkward silence as we drive to the hospital.
