I sleep like a baby.
"Wait, I have a baby, how can I sleep like a baby."
I jump out of bed, grab my robe and rush out in a panic. Jack cannot sleep all through the night. No way. I open Jack's bedroom and am instantly met by a male presence. Monty?
"Monty?" I question, imitating my inner voice. Not wearing a shirt.
I stop in my trucks, almost chocking on my saliva. I cough and turn away instantly.
"Dude, clothes, put on some clothes." I whisper scream, an attempt to not wake up the other residents.
"I am dressed. You just caught me off guard" Monty retorts jokingly.
I turn to face him and catch a glimpse of his lower abdomen as he attempts to straighten his shirt.
"Did you sleep here?" I ask, looking at him intently.
"Well, you were fast asleep when he woke up, so I simply fed him and set him back to sleep. Not a big deal."
So casual "and thoughtful."
"Say that again," he questions.
Damn it. I voiced my thoughts out loud.
"No, nothing, just murmuring to myself"
He scoffs jokingly and heads out of the room.
"Hey baby." The baby was awake all along. I Pick him up and kiss him on the cheek.
Wait, that scent. My baby smells like Monty. I sniff him. The minty smell. Is it a mixture of mint and wood? What is that?
"Whatcha doin'? Still loving your son's smell?" Meg asks.
She is standing by the door way, looking at me questioningly. She takes steady and slow steps towards me, bows her head to sniff Jack.
"That is Monty. That smell." She goes back in to take another sniff. "Good Lord, that man smells nice. I could eat him given a chance."
A laugh escapes my throat "Tell me about it." I say, before I can catch myself.
Meg raises her head to look in my eyes then says, "Interesting."
With that she walks away, grinning.
I decide to leave Jack like he is and head with him to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. I like it when he is close by, where I can glance at him from time to time. As I prepare a few meals, Jack is laying on his stroller pulling at his socks. A pleasant view.
Monty is the first to walk out of his room. He picks Jack up and pulls him to his chest. Somehow he is a different person in Jack's presence.
"Hello, little man, you had a good sleep, didn't you?"
He speaks to the child as if he understands, maybe he does, because Jack gabbles, as if in agreement.
And I've been staring again. And Meg agrees, since I catch her equally staring at me. I clear my throat and simply states, "Breakfast is ready."
Monty pecks Jack on the cheek and places him back down. He walks into the kitchen and grabs a plate. Sits on a stool besides mine and immediately grabs a spoonful. I hear a low moan as he munches on the food and that places a smile on my face. I like it when people enjoy my food.
"I have one and a half hours before I report for duty. Is this piece a goodbye gift?" He asks after swallowing the food.
"Mmh." I say, tilting my head sideways.
He smiles and goes right back to eating. Meg has been standing still, either unable to move, or just afraid of moving.
"What, girl? Bring the little man with you, your food is getting cold."
