i'm drowning, i can't breathe and i'm struggling to escape this glass cylinder. i look over across from me one more time before my last breath and see thomas, my best friend, already gone. his eyes were shut and his struggling has stopped.

suddenly im woken up by harsh shaking and loud rattling. i take a deep breath, it stopped, i can breathe again. looking around i noticed the room im in, its moving fast and its going up like a never ending elevator. my heart starts pounding out of my chest as i watch my surroundings. i have absolutely no memory of how i ended up in this contraption.

the dim lights from above flickered, casting shadows on the walls of the box. what the fuck is going on?? i glance down and see a boy laying next to me, still unconscious, his face was peaceful. im not sure how long we've been out for but every passing second feels longer and longer.

i took a deep breath before pushing myself up to my knees, trying not to get pushed back down by the pressure of the moving box. the ceiling was high, aligned with the various crates of supplies, each labelled things like food, clothing, and medical supplies. it seemed they were intended for survival but i wasn't sure how long we'd be here for, i mean it has to stop moving at some point right.?

the sound of voices and giggling caught my attention, it was coming from above. before i knew it the box jolted up and hit a hard stop. this woke up the boy laying next to me. he gasped slightly, before his face dropping at the sight of me.

"who are you.?" he breathes, before i can reply a strong light hit his face as the ceiling opened up. we both shielded our eyes, squinting at the figures looking down at us. they were boys, roughly my age, and they were shouting in excitement.

"theres two of em this time!" a voice yelled, the sound of his voice rung in my ears.

"is that a shucking girl?"

"quick get em out!" a different voice yelled, a second passed before a rope was thrown down into the box. i hesitated at first. i took one last glance at the boy next to me, who hasn't fully picked himself up yet, before grabbing onto the rope.

i emerged from the box, being greeted by a big group of boys. my face twitched in uncomfortability before i start to look around, and then back down at the box. i see the boy come up from the box the same way i did, he stood next to me looking confused. he looked into my eyes for about 2 seconds before spinning and looking around the surrounding area.

i finally got a good look at him, he had chocolate brown eyes and dark brown, almost wet looking hair that layed on his forehead. he had little freckled birthmarks around the entire side of his face leading down to his neck. he was much taller than me, most of the boys were, but he was about 8 or more inches taller.

all there is to see is a big grass field, with sections of man made looking buildings like gardens and small huts. but what seemed to catch both our eyes were the massive stone walls surrounding the area, all four walls covered in some sort of vines and a split right down the middle, although only one wall had an opening.
