BIG DECISIONS
ariel's pov

after two full days, gally had finished building the makeshift hut i could stay in, i wasn't expecting much since it's only been two days but gally was shockingly dedicated and got all of the other builders to help out. was it my delicious food or did gally sorta care about me?

i make my way through the door of the wooden hut and notice a small bed, could fit about a person and a small child. also, contained a small mirror on the wall and a dresser. i wasn't sure what to do with a dresser since i wasn't provided with any other clothes anyway, but at least i had thomas' sweater.

i walk towards the mirror, finally being able to see what i look like. my dark brown hair fell to my chest and my pale skin had some dirt on it. my face looked young but i was pretty, my dark eyelashes and full lips completed my face.

it made me sad how thomas and chuck still had to sleep at the hammocks while i got my own room, but i did need it the most to be fair. i wasn't safe sleeping out there all night, although i loved chucks and thomas' company, new for me because i prefer being alone, and being around people all the time gives me sensory overload.

i lay on my bed which was definitely comfier than the hammocks, the bland roof was a bad change of scenery, over the old trees i used to lay under.

i hear two knocks at my door, allowing the person to come in i notice its newt. "knock, knock. anyone fancy a bit of work?." he teased, grinning like he always does.

i groaned loudly, flinging an arm over my eyes. "your supposed to say knock knock before opening the door newt, also if the work has anything to do with running in circles and scrubbing floors, you can count me out."

"well, aren't you a bundle of sunshine today?" newt stepped inside and leaned against the doorframe. "listen, there's gonna be a keepers meeting later. we need to decide what you and tommy boy are doing around here. and no, 'professional napper' isn't a job."

i sigh at the possibilities, i liked all the jobs and the people but nothing felt like me, they all felt forced and i couldn't imagine doing those jobs for the remainder of my time here. i finally sit up from my laying position.

"thomas is going to want to be a runner, right?"
newt rolled his eyes, "oh, you think? the guys been talking about it non stop since day one. but let's be real, it's not happening. at least not yet."

i smirked. "so what's left for me?"

newt gave me a sympathetic smile. "well, there's always kitchen duty, frypan can use some help." i stared at the boy in horror and disbelief. i didn't mind being a cook and i was honestly good at it but nothing about me would enjoy feeding a glade of forty boys three times a day.
