The gym was busy that morning, what with summer finally here and kids out of school.

It also happened to be one of the days Genevieve came to work with her father. Not that she minded. She loved being at the gym.

It was Emmett who worried whenever she was there, not wanting her to get hurt when his back was turned.

But luckily for him, he had gotten a call from Penny midway through the morning. She had reached out to a few people, and they wanted to meet with Emmett to discuss what he was planning.

So he packed Gena into the car, grabbed Rick, one of his managers, and went straight to the Hard Deck.

“You sure you should be bringing your daughter to a bar?”

Emmett deadpanned. “It's not even noon, Rick. The bar isn't open.”

The man raises his hands in surrender, letting a little chuckle slip through.

“Besides,” Emmett continues, “Penny owns it. She set the meeting here, so it was a familiar setting.”

The car finally stops, and Emmett gets Genevieve out of her car seat. “Now I know these will be new people, but you don't have to be scared.”

Sometimes, she got shy around new people, hiding against her father. Most times, however, he had to reign her in from bothering them with too many questions.

“Okay Daddy.”

With that, the group of three make their way into the bar, Penny spotting them immediately.

“Emmett! Glad you could come on such short notice.”

He smiles at the woman. “This was the perfect excuse to get out of the gym, so thank you. This is one of my managers, Rick. He is typically the other person helping me with these programs. No one else I'd trust more.”

Penny shakes Rick's hand before turning her attention to the little girl in her father's arms.

She sends the girl a gentle smile. “And who's this cutie?”

That gets a giggle out of Gena. “This is my daughter Genevieve. She comes with me to the gym some days.”

Penny, being the mom she is, nearly melts at the young girl hiding against her father. “Hi Genevieve, I'm Penny. It's nice to meet you.”

She peeks her eyes out as Emmett gives her a little squeeze. “Nice to meet you too.”

Knowing she's a bit shy, Penny offers a branch, so to speak. “I've got some apple juice in the kitchen, if you would like. As long as it's okay with your father, or course.”

That gets Genevieve's attention right away, quickly looking at her father with her eyes wide.

Emmett lets out an exaggerated sigh. “I guess. But only if I can have a glass too.”

Genevieve nods her head rapidly, looking at Penny. “Yes, please.” But she's got a little lisp, so it comes out as ‘pwease’.

The young girl gets more comfortable as the now group of four waits for the others to arrive.

By the time the interested parties made their way into the bar, Gena had decided she loved Penny and had made her way to sit with the woman.

Emmett could only smile at the two, mouthing a thank you to Penny along the way.

The discussions took a while, Emmett and Rick explaining their past programs as assurance.

It was exhausting, but it was a good exhaustion. Emmett knew this would only benefit the community or at least give the kids a few hours of fun.

Penny, seeing the look on Emmett's face when the last person walked out, had to give him some reassurance.

“What you are doing is making a difference, never doubt that.”

Meanwhile, the detachment was getting their asses handed to them. People were running the course and failing, over and over again.

Unfortunately, this next group, Coyote, Phoenix, and Bob, had the honor of being the ones to finally break Maverick.

"Time to target is a minute and thirty, we are two seconds behind. Increase speed to 490 knots," Bob informs.

"We gotta move Coyote," Phoenix relays through the radio. He was moving too slow for them to make the time they needed.

"Copy, increasing speed," Coyote informs, but he hesitates and doesn't move fast enough.

Phoenix has to pull up in order to avoid crashing, causing her to go past the hard deck and be hit by SAMS.

Back in the hanger, Maverick is grilling them. "Why are they dead?" He asks the aviators seriously, looking at the three who just came back.

"We broke the 300 foot ceiling, and a SAM took us out," Phoenix replies.

"No, why are they dead," he asks Coyote specifically this time.

"I slowed down, and I didn’t give her a warning. It’s my fault," Coyote admits.

"Is there a reason you didn’t communicate with your team?" Maverick pushes. He needs them to understand just how serious this is.

"I was focused…" Coyote begins, but he's quickly cut off.

"One that their families will accept at their funerals?" Maverick questions seriously.

"No sir," Coyote replies, realizing the magnitude of the question.

"Why didn’t you anticipate the turn? You were briefed on the terrain," he now questions Phoenix.

Phoenix tries to come up with an answer.

"Don't tell me, tell it to his family," Maverick gestures to Bob.

Natasha looks down. This mission was damn near impossible. She was responsible for Bob's life up there, as well as her wingman. She doesn't know if she could live with the guilt should something happen to one of them.

And she's not sure if Emmett could live with it if something happened to her.
