"Thank you all so much." I gripped the packaged bag of still warm food to my chest, appreciation and admiration filling my heart. "For everything."
My back was weighted with the bag clothes Shikaku had bought for me. They'd got me firm and durable boots that covered my no longer bare feet, and a silting sun hat.
For once, I looked nice.
Yoshino crouched before me with a smile. She straightened my collar and and smoothed my hair down.
"You're very welcome my sweet." She said.
"You can visit whenever you'd like." Shikaku said. "You remember the way?"
I nodded, remembering his precise instructions over breakfast.
"Thank you Yoshi-chan, Shi-san."
Both Nara parents smiled and I felt like a child again, visiting a friends house with parents who cared very, very much.
