It was the perfect temperature and perfect timing for a haircut. Cane scanned his chill fit in the mirror before smoothing his hands against his hoodie. Satisfied with the final look, he left and hopped into traffic.
Just around the block was his homeboy Aries, the only person he trusted with his lineup. Due to his hectic schedule and never wanting to go on a whim, he always made sure to schedule his appointments timely. Parking at the curb, Cane hopped out, the chirping of his locks like his theme song as he approached the shop entrance.
"Wassup, playa'," an older gentleman seated by the door greeted Cane immediately, hands prepared for dap. "Taking it easy, can't complain," he responded nonchalantly while exchanging the sacred handshake. Maneuvering further into the shop, he exchanged more similar gestures until he reached Aries, who was prepping his tools.
"What's going on, nigga," Aries said, removing the cape from the seat. "Not shit," Cane replied, making himself comfortable in the chair. Aries dressed him in the protective covering and began the process of cutting.
During this time, lighthearted conversation was exchanged.
"What you getting into tonight?" Aries asked. Sighing, Cane lightly shrugged, careful not to off-balance Aries. "Shit, laying low."
"Come fuck with the hood tonight. Know we don't see you much anymore," Aries suggested. Pondering lightly, Cane said, "Aight, I'll slide through. Just hit me later."
"I gotchu'. And make sure you bring some company," Aries informed while removing the cape and lightly dusting Cane's shoulders. The cut was complete.
Cane didn't take to heart the suggestion to bring a guest; he figured he'd just scan his DMs and see who was down. He ran his hands down his face, looked into the mirror, and paid.
Just as he was walking out, he spotted a big yellow slip on his car, ruining his almost happy ending. "Shit," he fussed, knowing exactly what it was: a ticket. Scanning his surroundings quickly, he found the culprit responsible. "Aye, aye, you just put that ticket on my car?" he yelled. The suspect in question turned on their heels. Almost stunned at who was revealed to him, his demeanor instantly changed.
"Yes, I did. Is there a problem?" she asked, her voice soft as silk. "No, nah, it's straight," he said nervously, scratching the back of his head. This allowed both parties to get a good look at one another. Cane you noticed everything, even how in a police uniform, it was hard to miss such a banging body.
"If all hearts and minds are clear, I'm gonna get out of here. Enjoy your afternoon, sir," she said before dismissing herself. Cane lived by seizing every opportunity and wasn't gonna let his future walk away.
"What's your name, Ms. Officer? I've never been ticketed by a lady cop before," he stated flirtatiously.
Judging the type of gal she was, he knew she'd like that kind of banter. "Funny. My name is Officer Yn," she responded. "Well, Ms. Officer Yn, what you getting into later tonight?" he asked confidently.
Looking him up and down, you couldn't deny he was fine.
"I guess whatever you're getting into."
"Bet. What's your number? I'll call you," he stated. The exchange was short and sweet as the two parted ways.
