The sea’s cold, fluorescent waters kissed my blood-leaking skin, simultaneously burning and easing the barrage of pain from my wounds. My eyes stung as they slowly fluttered open, drifting in and out of consciousness, feeling the cold embrace of the ocean wrapping around me tighter with every second. My head pulsated, flashing the last thing I remembered before entering a stage of stagnant darkness.
“Gi…gan…tron,” I thought, fully opening my eyes, swallowing gallons of saltwater, as panic rendered my ability to breathe and filter the saltwater around me useless.
“Gigantron.”
I flailed endlessly in the dark depths, trying to swim back up to the open surface to check on my friend but was unable, my body remaining unresponsive. Only now was it slowly granting me back my underwater breathing ability. Clusters of bubbles burst into existence with each weakened gesture as I slowly sank to the haunting sea bottom floor.
Suddenly, a dark opaque shadow covered my sinking body, followed by a powerful surge lifting me from the depths. The ocean seemed to part around us, bubbles streaming past as we ascended. My body was gently elevated above the ocean surface, face flat, by something warm and familiar. My vision unblurred as streams of water drained off my hair and face into my eyes.
I weakly turned my head to the side, staring directly into Gigantron’s intense half-shut green eye, her gaze filled with a mixture of relief and determination, and a third emotion I could decipher… pain. She let out a low groan, slowly creeping to an area within the ocean, carefully ensuring my recovering body did not slip off her warm beak. The rustling of water could be heard behind me, followed by a groan, not rendering it a threat due to Gigantron’s unresponsive behavior. I didn't attempt to turn around to see what it was, vibrating slightly as Gigantron weakly dragged her body to her close-by destination.
Various groans were heard from Gigantron’s periodically glowing body, lighting up in a dim pastel pink color as she finally reached her destination, where a small beeping was heard. I slowly turned my head, my curly hair snagging against the horns on Gigantron’s beak as I slowly gained back my strength, easing up my pained body off her warm beak. There, floating in the distance, was her unscarred egg, still encased, drifting towards us on the sea's dark blue surface.
I watched, slightly sitting up as Gigantron nudged the floating egg, before I felt my body painfully skid to the side due to Gigantron flicking me over to the side of her beak. Submerging the other side of her beak along with her body that fell into the water, releasing a groan. Now resting barely on her beak, I screamed, finally grasping the situation, as she rested her head on the cold surface of the egg, groaning softly. My body tensed as I scrambled to meet her soon-to-be closed eyes. My body weakened with each movement, but I didn't care, didn't care as golden tears flowed from my eyes, my breath shortening, my body convulsing as I stared into her eyes, wailing, whining, screaming to keep her awake.
"Please, Gigantron, stay with me!" I pleaded within my thoughts, interpreting into high-pitched screams as they exited my mouth, my voice breaking with desperation. "You can't leave me, not now!" My hands clung to her beak, shaking as my fingers slipped on the wet surface as I tried to keep her eyes open, to keep her conscious.
Stay awake, you have… remember your baby, they'll need… I'll need… I slapped my hurting body for forgetting how to produce simple words, to portray my feelings to my friend, wanting to speak, not scream, squeak, or crow… but to simply speak.
"Don’t go, you ca...n't go," my thoughts screamed, completely in shambles as I rested my hand gently onto her head. Gigantron let out one final, weak groan, her eyes fluttering as she tried to focus on me. Her body shuddered, the glow in her eyes dimming as her life force waned.
"No, no, no, nooo… please," I thought, sobbing, slapping her unresponsive body harshly, pressing my forehead against her beak. "Please don't go."
But despite my pleas, the light in Gigantron's eyes faded, her body growing still. The realization hit me like a tidal wave, my heart shattering into a million pieces as I let out a guttural scream, not caring what heard me as the sound echoed across the empty ocean. The sea seemed to mourn with me, the waves gently lapping against Gigantron's lifeless form. I clung to her beak, feeling her body slipping off the egg slowly, knocking the egg forward, falling into the sea carrying me along as my tears mixed with the saltwater, my cries of grief and loss filling the void left by her absence.
Her large head bounced back up to the surface as upthrust did its work, with me tightly clinging to her beak, not letting go, as coughs escaped my mouth. My body trembled endlessly, and my mind went blank, circulating the same question over and over again: "What am I going to do? Who’s going to care for your egg now that you're gone, Gigantron? Who?" I screeched slowly, hoping I would be met back with a response from the still kaiju, but the only thing that responded back was silence... silence and the faint sound of beeping along with the slight rustling of water.
Beeping, I thought, letting out a sniffle as I slowly turned towards the sound. There lay Gigantron’s precious egg, freed from its enclosure and glowing a bright pink fluorescent color, in the hand of the large shadow that had struck us down, ricocheting the clump of light off him onto us, which helped cause my friend's death.
Anger welled up in me as I leaped forward, only to be pulled harshly back by my tangled curly amber hair, now dark red due to being soaked, wrapped around my friend's horn that sat on her floating head. A small scream left my mouth as I gripped my aching scalp, climbing up on Gigantron's body to untangle my hair, freeing myself. However, in the process of freeing myself, a crack echoed from behind me, along with strings of "no’s" being mumbled.
I slowly turned around, hoping what I thought had happened based on sounds didn't happen... however, unfortunately, it did. I zeroed in on the large shadow's hands, glowing and reflecting various cool colors along his reflective suit.
"No, no, no, no," I thought, petrified as I watched bits and pieces of a multicolored shell descend from the highly held hands into the deep waters below, floating on its dense surface. My ears picked up a sniffle and small hiccup as my heart softened, gazing at what seemed to be the top of the recently hatched kaiju’s head, Gigantron’s baby.
I furiously tugged my hair free, not taking my eyes off the little one, being cradled by the one slightly responsible for their mother’s death. With one big final tug, my hair was free as the sky cleared, showcasing the kaleidoscope of colors existing within the sky. It highlighted my wet skin, casting a glow on my aqua blue and golden eyes, and lined my hair that framed my face, a cluster of strands wrapping around the white patch that exists around my right eye, clinging to my skin.
I calmly watched as the large figure stared at the baby resting in his palms, breathing heavily as his bright blue and white eyes scanned the baby’s overall frame. Waiting for the right moment to strike, not knowing how to obtain and rescue Gigantron’s baby, which would be my responsibility, as she took care of me to the fullest, so it's my turn to reciprocate that love onto her only child.
The giant shadow turned his head, seeming to have heard something, staring behind him into the fog, where more moving stars shone bright lights into the dark foggy ocean.
“Oh no,” I thought, scared for me and the baby’s life as the stars got close. However, that was the least of my issues now as I watched the large figure turn his head back around towards where Gigantron’s still body and I stood, illuminating a path with his bright eyes. I quickly hid behind the horn structure out of its path. Panicking as the large shadow quickly dipped under the ocean's salty water, carrying the baby along with him. Quickly jumping off Gigantron’s body to follow them, I turned around one last time to memorize my dead friend’s body floating on top of the water, about to be left alone to probably rot or be eaten.
Tears filled my eyes as I closed them tight, feeling tears flow down my cheeks. “Don’t you worry, I'll get your baby back and raise her well, so rest well, my friend,” I thought, smiling one last time at her before plunging into the cold water, swimming hastily after the large shadow's body, whose eyes provided light for him to see.
“Now it's time to get my friend’s baby back.”
