Mina and I spent the next few hours going over the basics—everything from avoiding glowing food to understanding the odd customs of this world. She kept things light and humorous, making it easier for me to absorb the information without feeling too overwhelmed. We wandered through different rooms, occasionally glancing at the baby kaiju as she danced cutely, mimicking the animated figures on the screen.
Time seemed to blur as I tried to soak in all the details. I felt relieved when I learned that the thing I sprayed on myself wasn’t actually toilet water but a scented spray called perfume or cologne. However, that relief quickly faded when Mina explained that in this world, humans—especially of different genders—shouldn’t see each other’s nude bodies unless in specific situations or if they’re involved in a sexual relationship.
Not entirely sure what a "sexual relationship" entailed, I asked her to explain. Let’s just say I never want to hear that 'S' word again. Now, fully understanding why Kenji looked away when he saw me in the bathroom, I felt a wave of shame and disgust wash over me. My mood dampened as I wondered how Kenji must have viewed me standing there naked, as if I was trying to seduce him—which, of course, I wasn’t.
Seeming to sense the tension in the room, Mina turned towards me. “Are you alright? There was a sudden change in your mood.”
Quickly fixing my expression, I slowly glanced up at Mina, sporting a smile before nodding at her, not wanting to bother her more than I already had today. With this, she let out an “okay” before continuing the information dump I had asked for. Every once in a while, Mina would crack a joke, lightening the mood whenever I started to feel the weight of it all. Despite the strangeness of my situation, I found myself laughing more than I expected.
“Well, that’s it for today,” Mina cheerfully said, floating alongside me as she waited for the entrance of the glass elevator to open and carry us down to the pink kaiju.
I turned towards her, letting out a small squeal to thank her for her time and patience with me. Seeming to understand, she let out a robotic chuckle before floating into the opened tube.
The elevator doors slid open, revealing the baby kaiju staring at us, bursting with energy. Her tiny eyes sparkled with excitement as she spotted us, letting out an enthusiastic squeal before bouncing on her little legs. She immediately launched into a silly dance, her movements uncoordinated but utterly adorable, as if she was inviting us to join in with her and the moving illustration.
Mina floated beside me, watching the baby kaiju with an amused hum. “Looks like she wants us to dance,” she said, her robotic voice tinged with warmth.
I chuckled softly, watching the baby kaiju twirl around with clumsy, joyful abandon. She spun in circles, her tiny arms flailing in a clear invitation for us to join in. I hesitated at first, feeling self-conscious, but the kaiju’s excitement was too contagious to ignore. She squealed again, louder this time, her eyes locked on me as if pleading for me to follow her lead.
“Well,” Mina said with a small chuckle, “I suppose we can humor her, right?”
With a shy smile, I nodded. The baby kaiju’s enthusiasm made it impossible to resist. I began moving my feet, attempting to mirror her goofy, erratic steps. At first, I felt awkward, my limbs not quite sure what to do, but as I watched the kaiju dance with such carefree delight, my self-consciousness slowly faded away.
Mina, though not exactly equipped for dancing, hovered beside us, occasionally spinning in her own robotic way. Her voice, though calm, carried a hint of playfulness as she commented on my movements. “You’re getting the hang of it,” she said, her tone almost teasing.
I laughed, feeling lighter with each silly step I took. The baby kaiju let out a triumphant squeal, clearly delighted that I had joined in her dance. She spun around me, her tiny feet moving in a happy rhythm, and I found myself spinning along with her. Despite my initial hesitation, the moment became one of pure joy—a small, precious escape from the overwhelming new world I was forced to navigate.
